Responsible for accurately marking all water, wastewater and fiber optic infrastructure for the city. This includes marking all water and sewer mains, services, manholes, cleanouts, valves, city fiber lines and any other utility devices as outlined by regulation. This position, when needed, will operate hydraulic type equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, or other type of equipment to locate utilities and a variety of hand tools in water and sewer construction, repairs and maintenance.

1. Locates and marks water mains, sewer mains, services, city fiber lines and any other items for contractors, builders, developers, customers as well as other utilities.
2. Works closely with customers and co-workers to convey information about city infrastructure in order to adequately protect it.
3. Reads blueprints and plans identifying city infrastructure.
4. Keeps accurate records of all utilities identified and make sure timely locates are done.
5. Accurately identifies any conflicts with utilities and communicate all necessary information to supervisor.
6. Uses line locating equipment including electronic locating devices, CCTV and any other means to identify utilities.
7. Repairs and constructs water and wastewater lines, expose utilities, repair leaks, set taps, repair fire hydrants and valves, flush mains, clear stoppages, perform fiber pull box maintenance, meter reading and meter maintenance, etc.
8. Keeps work records and plans daily activities in response to Texas811 requests for water and wastewater locates.
9. May be required to enter confined spaces (manholes) to properly identify infrastructure.
10. Performs equipment inspections and cleaning as necessary.
11. Utilizes city's GPS equipment to make updates to the mapping system.
12. Keeps detailed records of work performed on the City's CMMS system.
13. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
14. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
15. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

•The primary function of this job is performed in the field and under adverse conditions which may include inclement weather, construction sites, as well as traffic hazards.
•Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
•Must have the ability to complete tasks as assigned.
•Ability to work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
•Ability to work any day of the week (weekends and weekdays) and long hours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

High School/GED.

Requires a minimum of six months of recent experience in activities including line locating, identifying underground utilities and reading blueprints.

Must also have two years’ experience in manual labor activities to include operating hydraulic type equipment such as: front-end loader/backhoe, lift bucket truck, or other equipment used to locate utilities.

Position requires reading, writing and math skills at a level needed to understand directions, equipment operating procedures, and safety rules.

Must have the physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

Must have regular and punctual attendance, flexibility to work overtime and respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled work hours.

A Class “C” Distribution and Class II Collections license issued by the TCEQ is preferred.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must obtain a Class “A” CDL Texas driver’s license within one year of hire.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 1), and a Titmus vision screening.
