Job Title: Distribution Field Technician
Job Description

The Distribution Field Technician supports the distribution design team by performing field investigations on existing power poles and related equipment for third‑party telecom joint use. This role focuses on accurate data collection in the field, including identifying electrical and telecommunications equipment, taking precise measurements, and documenting conditions to support engineering and design activities in the power distribution and utility industry.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to field locations to inspect and document existing power poles and associated equipment.
  • Identify and record equipment on poles, including transformers, breakers, switches, telecom lines, and power lines.
  • Collect accurate data points on each structure, including measurements and spatial information needed for distribution design.
  • Measure and mark the heights of lines and attachments on poles in accordance with project requirements.
  • Take clear, detailed photos of poles, equipment, and surrounding conditions to support engineering review.
  • Perform basic field engineering tasks related to power distribution and telecom joint use attachments.
  • Enter collected data into company systems and tools, including office-based data entry and documentation.
  • Collaborate with team members in the field, typically working in small groups to complete assigned routes.
  • Use company-provided vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly while traveling to and from job sites.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) while working outdoors and around utility infrastructure.
  • Communicate effectively with the distribution design team and project leadership regarding field conditions, issues, and progress.
  • Support the utility and telecommunications joint use program by ensuring data accuracy and completeness for design and permitting.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to perform accurate field data collection on utility poles and related equipment.
  • Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of electric utility and power distribution concepts or a strong interest in learning them.
  • Ability to identify equipment such as transformers, breakers, switches, telecom lines, and power lines with training.
  • Tech-savvy approach with the ability to use field data collection tools, mobile devices, and basic software applications.
  • Attention to detail when taking measurements, marking line heights, and documenting field conditions.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and wearing required PPE at all times in the field.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle safely, as required for field travel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree is a plus.
  • Prior field utility experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience or exposure to the utility industry, construction, power distribution, or electrical installation is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with data collection tools and methods in a field engineering environment.
  • Exposure to or interest in telecommunication and telecom joint use work.
  • Experience with or interest in software such as AutoCAD, SpidaCalc, or other power delivery and design tools.
  • Desire to grow into distribution design or other technical roles within the utility field.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in small teams and independently in the field when needed.
Work Environment

The role is based out of an Orlando-area office of approximately 18 team members and is primarily field-focused, with about 90% of the time spent outdoors and 10% in the office for administrative tasks and data entry. The position follows a 4/10 schedule, offering four ten-hour days per week with opportunities for overtime. Field work is typically performed in small groups of two or three technicians, with occasional independent work as needed. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for travel to and from field sites. The work involves regular exposure to outdoor conditions around utility infrastructure, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times to maintain safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maitland, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
