Job Description

The Truck Technician fabricates, repairs, and maintains propane trucking equipment, including trucks, trailers, tanks, piping systems, and related components. This role focuses on welding, mechanical repair, and installation work to ensure propane vehicles and systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and fabrication on propane trucks, trailers, tanks, piping, and brackets using MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques as applicable.
  • Install, repair, and maintain propane piping systems, valves, fittings, and related components on trucks and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and structural issues on propane trucks, trailers, and equipment, and perform efficient, high-quality repairs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to complete fabrication, assembly, and installation tasks accurately.
  • Assemble mechanical components and systems on propane trucks and trailers according to specifications and safety requirements.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to carry out fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance work safely and effectively.
  • Perform pipe threading and fitting for propane piping systems to ensure proper alignment, sealing, and performance.
  • Assist with electrical-related tasks on propane trucking equipment as needed, supporting installation and repair activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of propane trucks, tanks, and piping systems to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and best practices while working in the shop and outdoor areas.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a welder, pipefitter, or shop technician in a propane, industrial, or trucking environment.
  • Proficiency with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques for fabrication and repair work.
  • Strong understanding of welding techniques and pipe fitting practices related to propane systems and trucking equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience using a wide range of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of propane piping systems, valves, fittings, and related components.
  • Experience with pipe threading for piping system installation and repair.
  • Basic electrical experience related to equipment installation, troubleshooting, or repair.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical or structural issues and determine appropriate repair methods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in a propane, industrial, or trucking shop environment is preferred.
  • Comfort working on both new builds and maintenance or repair projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, safe work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative shop team.
  • Willingness to work primarily outdoors and adapt to varying temperatures and conditions.

Work Environment

You will work in a 15-person shop that handles both new builds and maintenance and repair of propane trucks, trailers, and related equipment. The facility includes seven bays and operates primarily in a non-climate-controlled setting, with approximately 85% of the work performed outside. The role is hands-on and tool-intensive, involving regular use of welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and pipe threading equipment. The environment is active and production-focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and practical problem-solving during a first-shift schedule with flexible hours.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $46000.00 - $66560.00/yr.
