Role Overview:
The Training and Staff Development Specialist provides agency-wide customer service training. You will create engaging and interactive training, including eLearning modules, videos, and hands-on activities designed for remote and on-site learning. You will train on complex topics to ensure frontline staff are prepared to provide a world-class customer experience for our tax payers.
The successful candidate will be positive, enthusiastic, and team oriented with passion for continuous learning and a desire to support the Department of Revenue’s mission, vision, and Pyramid of Excellence.
This role is located at the central DOR offices at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Salary:
This position starts at an annual salary of $47,320 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

A Day in the Life: Responsibilites include:
- Design customized training programs, incorporating adult learning principles and innovative instructional design methodologies.
- Create engaging and interactive training materials, including presentations, e-learning modules, videos, and hands-on activities.
- Facilitate training sessions using a variety of instructional techniques to accommodate different learning styles and preferences.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in training and development, and integrate them into training strategies.
- Collaborate with department heads and HR to assess training needs, identify skill gaps, and develop targeted training solutions.
- Conduct thorough training needs analyses to determine the most effective training methods, including in-person, virtual, and blended learning approaches.
- Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to optimize impact.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content.
- Coordinate training schedules, venues, and logistics, ensuring smooth execution of training events.
- Provide ongoing support and resources to employees to reinforce learning and skill application.
- Assist in the development of career development plans and pathways, helping employees map out their growth within the organization.
- Maintain training records and prepare reports on training activities, attendance, and outcomes.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success: The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either:
- a Bachelor's Degree and 3+ year of experience, or
- an Associate's Degree and 5+ years of experience, or
- at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
- Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Additional qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theories.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering a variety of training methods, including e-learning, workshops, webinars, and on-the-job training.
- Extensive communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to assess training needs, gather feedback, and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficient in using learning management systems (LMS) and other training technology.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
