Job Title: Tool and Die Technician

Job Description

The Tool and Die Technician provides onsite support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring that all tools and dies used in production operate safely, reliably, and at peak performance. This role focuses on routine and emergency maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of tooling and dies across multiple production areas, while closely collaborating with production, engineering, and vendor teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and troubleshooting of tools and dies used in manufacturing operations to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect, test, and adjust tools and dies to ensure proper function, product quality, and adherence to safety and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with production teams across all departments to identify, diagnose, and resolve tooling-related issues quickly and effectively.
  • Assist in the setup, calibration, and adjustment of tooling and dies for new product launches, process changes, and production trials.
  • Conduct in-press troubleshooting and perform emergency repairs to keep stamping and forming operations running smoothly.
  • Execute die maintenance activities including tryouts, debugging, and fine-tuning of progressive dies, cutting dies, and other tooling.
  • Use manual and CNC machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and grinders, to fabricate, modify, and repair die components.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC machines using G-code and M-code to produce and refine precision tooling components.
  • Apply CAD/CAM tools to support tool design and modifications, and collaborate with engineering on improvements to tooling performance.
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and optical comparators to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications to tight tolerances.
  • Utilize material science knowledge, including tool steels, aluminum, and carbide, as well as heat-treating principles, to select and process materials appropriately.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tool and die maintenance or a related manufacturing role.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, die maintenance, stamping operations, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing stamping dies, progressive dies, cutting dies, and related tooling.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and GD&T to tight tolerances.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Louisville, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.50/hr.
