Job Title: Reliability Test Engineer
Job Description

This high visibility role is part of a new molecular R&D instrument development group. We are seeking two Level 4 Engineers to join an early-stage team responsible for baselining and identifying failure modes on complex electromechanical diagnostic devices. This position offers a ground floor opportunity on a brand new test and reliability program at a global leader in molecular diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Propose testing approaches and determine applicable standards in a technically ambiguous environment.
  • Independently identify industry standards such as MIL STD 810, ASTM, and ISTA, and author comprehensive test protocols from scratch.
  • Design and analyze custom test fixtures and tooling using SolidWorks for various testing environments.
  • Lead hands-on environmental and destructive testing, including thermal cycling, altitude, shock, vibration, and ingress protection.
  • Perform preliminary mechanical and electrical investigations into failure modes.
  • Present technical findings directly to program leadership.
Essential Skills
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in hardware testing and reliability engineering.
  • High proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Ability to perform environmental and destructive testing.
  • Proficiency in performing root cause analysis on mechanical and electrical failure modes.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Experience in medical device, automotive, aerospace, or defense industries is highly valued.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with programming and automation, such as Lua scripting or LabVIEW.
  • Experience with Helix ALM or other PLM platforms like DOORS or Polarion.
  • Experience with EMC or EMI testing and IP ingress testing per IEC standards.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis for reliability, including HALT, HASS, or MTBF.
  • Master's degree with 8+ years of experience in the field may be considered.
Work Environment

Join a small, collaborative R&D engineering team at the Salt Lake City campus. The team comprises a program manager, project manager, systems engineer, and two test engineer roles, with plans to expand after six months. The position involves a mix of hands-on bench testing in a lab environment and desk work developing protocols, analyzing data, and preparing presentations. Expect a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, core hours between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM, and flexibility within that window. A hybrid work model is available, but due to the hands-on nature of the role, on-site presence is required most of the time. The dress code is R&D engineering casual, suitable for lab and shop floor work. A laptop will be provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $75.00/hr.
