Under the direction of an assigned District administrator, perform responsible and technical duties related to the District’s Information Services department and enterprise and departmental applications and equipment as assigned. Install, configure and support networking equipment, networking systems, communications, operating systems, and related software; identify and resolve problems/malfunctions in networking systems including protocols, hardware and software. Assist staff with computer /network operating systems and related applications and technical training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of training and education equivalent to completion of college-level courses in computer information services; three years of experience working extensively with local area networks, related hardware, software, and data. Two years of experience with a wide variety of desktop and server operating systems including virtualization and directory services.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Computer Network Engineer certification...ie

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or the equivalent is desirable

Cisco Certified Network Administrator or the equivalent is desirable.

Ability to move from site to site to perform daily tasks.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

Assist in the implementation, installation, upgrading, monitoring and troubleshooting of the District’s physical network infrastructure, including servers, hubs, routers, switches, other device hardware, computer equipment, related peripheral equipment and multi-platform network operating systems and applications. E Installs, configures and maintains, directly or by managing vendor services, related hardware and software in coordination with other technology support staff and under technology department guidelines and policies.E

Prepares, creates and maintains documentation and training materials for network applications and related procedures.E

Design, configure and maintains SQL Databases, performs maintenance and backups. Create, view and modify SQL tables. Create, modify, and troubleshoot SQL jobs through SQL Management Studio. Create, modify, read and understand stored procedures. E

Assists in the implementation, configuration, upgrading, testing, troubleshooting, tuning and maintenance of a variety of network services and components, including; email services; web and proxy servers; print and file services, wired and wireless infrastructure, VoIP, hosted environments, cloud based computing and remote access.E

Manages application accounts, both local and web based.E

Works with centralized support system staff to implement technology solutions; resolves technology related problems and plan for future growth and direction as related to assigned duties.E

Analyzes existing methods, forms, records and reports and makes recommendation to improve existing electronic systems or convert manual systems to automated systems.E

Facilitates introduction of SIS and related technology and process as related to assigned duties into departments.E

Assists centralized and site staff with development, maintenance and appropriateness of information system applications.E

Responds to service calls to assist staff in resolving problems related to assigned duties and responsibilities and assists other technology support staff in similar activities.E

Provides on-site support and training for staff as directed.E

Monitors and assists other technology staff with technology-related reports and assignments.E

Writes and maintains documentation and procedures for applications.E

Provides extracts, imports and support for applications that use the SIS database.E

Supports CALPADS and other State and Federal Data collection programs.E

Manages security for online student records and SQL technologies.E

Assist with maintaining security administrator, including administering the firewall rule base; monitors network intrusions; develops, recommends, implements and enforces the District’s network security policy and remote access standards and guidelines; maintains security on network and server equipment. E

Install, upgrade and maintain district email services. Postmaster/Administrator for district Exchange email server. Assist staff with training on processing of client side exchange tasks. Perform tasks that will ensure reliable secure content delivery. E

Updates schematics and documentation of network structure and devices; Reviews new or revised projects for conformance to established technical, system and operational standards; Coordinates work with other Information Systems staff to ensure appropriate network availability to meet end user and operational computing needs. E

Performs network administration tasks. E

Assist, monitor, and review information task as pertaining to technology repair. E Oversees and participate in the design and installation of new network system in conjunction with other departments and/or vendors on implementation of new facilities and technologies. E

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Current and emerging technology related to the position; industry standards, workstation-operating systems, network functionality and structure and a thorough understanding of applications in general; implementation of application security in an enterprise environment; departmental and enterprise applications such as desktop productivity applications or enterprise solutions; SQL Server technologies and relational database structures; database security and backup; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Principles and practices of advanced network administration. Industry design and configuration standards for enterprise networks, including: hardware, network protocols and network operating systems. Network management systems, including principles and practices of security management and security design. Principles and practices of business and technical communications, including techniques in the development of system and user documentation. Operating principles, parameters, uses, capabilities, characteristics and limitations of servers, network operating systems, PC’s, mid-range computers and related equipment. Standard principles, practices and methods of project management contacted in the course of work.

ABILITY TO:
