Technology Policy Coordinator

The Technology Policy Coordinator supports the development, documentation, and maintenance of IT policies, standards, and procedures. This role assists in ensuring alignment with organizational requirements, regulatory expectations, and industry frameworks such as NIST and ISO.

This position works closely with IT, Information Security and business departments to help maintain accurate documentation, support audit readiness, and promote technology policy awareness across the County.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the entry-level classification in the IT support function. Incumbents perform routine policy documentation, tracking, and coordination duties under general supervision. The role supports policy development and audit readiness efforts but does not independently interpret regulatory requirements, establish governance frameworks, or approve final policies. Work is performed using established templates and guidance aligned with recognized standards such as NIST and ISO, with complex issues escalating to senior staff.

  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, formatting, and updating IT policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain policy documentation, including version control, centralized repository management, and review cycle tracking.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by gathering documentation and tracking remediation efforts.
  • Coordinate policy reviews and communicate updates with IT, Information Security, and business stakeholders, under the direction of supervisor.
  • Track policy approvals, acknowledgements, and exception requests to support overall IT governance and compliance efforts.
  • Prepare and produce written summaries, documents, and other reports.
  • Use computer applications and management information systems to maintain records.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. and three (3) years of reprographics document control, technical documentation, information technology support, compliance support, records management, or project coordination or related experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience;

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

None required.

Knowledge of:

  • Policies, practices, procedures, and terminology related to print and mail.
  • Management and supervisory principles, practices and techniques.
  • Budget preparation and office management.
  • Standard practices in area of assignment.
  • Computer equipment to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and a variety of software packages.
  • Business letter writing, grammar and punctuation, and report preparation.

Skill in:
  • Supervising others, including team building.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Both verbal and written communication.

Ability to:
  • Expertly operate and maintain a variety of mailroom and printshop equipment.
  • Work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

  • Write basic reports and business correspondence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, representatives of outside agencies, other County employees and officials, and the general public.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 35-50 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions. Subject to contact with dust, fumes, noise, and hazardous chemicals.

Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity. As such, employees can be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.

Work Hours: 8 am - 5 pm, Monday-Friday.
