Refinery Technician

Role Summary

The Refinery Technician operates and monitors refinery equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role involves process monitoring through control systems, quality sampling, chemical handling, basic troubleshooting, and supporting maintenance activities while following strict safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor refinery equipment using DCS and related systems
  • Monitor process parameters, alarms, and equipment performance
  • Collect and deliver product and process samples for quality testing
  • Handle, fill, and dose chemicals safely per procedures
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance support
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical and process issues
  • Safely use hand tools, machines, and forklifts
  • Maintain accurate documentation and shift handovers
  • Follow all safety procedures, including confined space and work-at-height requirements
  • Maintain clean, safe indoor and outdoor work areas

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in refinery, production, or industrial manufacturing operations
  • Familiarity with DCS or similar control systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Chemical handling and quality control experience
  • Forklift experience or ability to obtain certification
  • Computer proficiency for monitoring and documentation
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work 12-hour rotating night shifts
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around hazardous materials
  • Valid driver’s license and strong safety awareness

Work Environment & Schedule

  • 12-hour rotating night shifts (6:30 p.m.–6:30 a.m.)
  • Combination of climate-controlled, indoor, and outdoor environments
  • Exposure to chemicals, heat, steam, dust, noise, and fumes
  • PPE provided; steel-toe boots required

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
