Integrations & Technical Implementation

Who We Are
At Subject.ai, we're building AI-powered, personalized education at scale. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, SoftBank Opportunity Fund, Owl Ventures, and others, we serve students across the country with cinematic, video-based learning experiences designed for the generation raised on the best consumer media and technology. Our rapidly-growing Austin-based team is empowering a global community of students with access to on-demand, delightful learning that truly engages.
Our cinematic, short-form videos are tailor-made for today's young learners. These are students who are accustomed to the best of consumer media and expect the same from their education. We're racing to re-imagine what's possible in the classroom, and we want you on this team.
About the Role
We're looking for a sharp, systems-minded Technical Program Manager to join our Operations team and help scale our integrations and technical implementation function. You'll own end-to-end programs that take new customers from contract signature to a live, healthy implementation — orchestrating across Support, Product, Customer Success, and Sales while running the technical workstreams directly yourself.
This is a customer-facing role — despite the program-management title, you'll be on calls with district IT directors, technology coordinators, and curriculum leaders every week. You'll also be the technical brain CSMs lean on when an account needs deeper data work, integration troubleshooting, or partner-facing collateral that exceeds the standard playbook.
This will be our third hire in this seat, joining an existing teammate who has already laid the foundation. That means a faster ramp than a true 0→1 role — but you'll still have an active hand in shaping how the function scales, including process optimization, documentation, and standing up new tools and software.
This role is lightly technical. Experience writing scripts, running light SQL queries, working with SFTP, troubleshooting SSO/SAML, and other "level one" technical tasks is preferred.
Location
This is a full-time role based in our Austin, TX downtown office. We maintain a highly collaborative in-office culture and you'll be expected to be in office with the team Monday–Friday. We are only considering candidates currently based in Austin or willing to relocate before start date.
Compensation is highly competitive, a mix of equity and cash, and commensurate with experience.
What You'll Do
Integrations & Implementation Programs
- Own implementation, integration, and onboarding programs for Subject's largest customers across the country — from kickoff to first lesson launch
- Run rostering (Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster, manual SFTP), SSO/SAML setup, grade passback, and other integration workstreams in partnership with district IT
- Lead technical configuration calls with district IT and tech coordinators; translate between "what the district has" and "what Subject needs"
Customer Success Enablement
- Oversee complex, high-value activities that support upselling, cross-selling, and account growth — usage reports, performance analyses, custom training material, partner-specific data work
- Serve as the technical resource CSMs escalate to when an account needs deeper investigation or partner-facing deliverables that exceed standard playbook
Product & Engineering Partnership
- Work closely with Product & Engineering to optimize internal features related to platform interoperability, data sharing, rostering/enrollment, grade passback, and partner-facing data hygiene
- Surface patterns from implementations back to Product — what's breaking, what's confusing, what's costing customers time
Self-Service & Automation
- Own Subject's Academy and self-service materials — drive support automation and empower end-users to self-solve issues
- Build and maintain product guides, walkthroughs, and partner-facing technical documentation
Operational Backbone
- Maintain and improve escalation tracking systems (Slack + Airtable), logging who escalated, why, how it was resolved, and partner visibility
- Document key processes in Notion — SOPs, escalation logs, macro libraries, partner-specific feedback
Qualifications
Required
- 4+ years of relevant experience in operations, product operations, technical support, implementation, or customer success
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — you can write a clear SOP and run a calm IT call in the same hour
- Team player genuinely passionate about education and Subject's mission
- Self-starter who is comfortable working independently, but also raises a hand when stuck
- Located in Austin, TX or willing to relocate before start date
Nice to Have
- Experience with K-12 SIS systems (PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward, Aeries), rostering standards (OneRoster, Clever, ClassLink), or LTI/LMS integration work
- Light SQL, scripting, or technical troubleshooting experience
- Early-stage startup background
The Mindset We Need
- Precision is a default, not an effort. Implementation data is uniquely unforgiving. A misaligned SIS column, a roster file with the wrong school year, a missed character in an SFTP path — these don't fail silently. They show up as 4,000 students staring at "no courses assigned" on day one. You don't trust that the file looks right; you verify it. Twice.
- You see the relationships across data. You're the person who notices the rostering file has 12,000 students but the LMS pulled 11,847 — and you want to know which 153 are missing and why. You think in joins, foreign keys, and source-of-truth questions, whether or not you're writing SQL that day.
- You genuinely love the IT call. This is the one that sorts the field. You don't tolerate working with district IT teams — you enjoy it. You know they're understaffed, that they've been burned by other EdTech vendors, and that the answer to "can you give us SFTP access?" is rarely yes on the first ask. You bring patience and warmth, and they remember you for it.
- Outcomes over checklists. A successful go-live isn't when the integration is wired up. It's when teachers in that district are actually launching lessons. You're not done when the work is done; you're done when the usage shows up.
- Documentation as a teammate. What you write in Notion today is the answer the next CSM gets at 9pm on a Thursday. You document for your future self and your team, not because someone asked you to.
- AI-native operator. Claude, Gong, Notion, and whatever's next are already in your workflow. You use AI to draft, summarize, troubleshoot, and pattern-match across your accounts. AI isn't a productivity hack you're curious about; it's how you already work.
The Commitment We're Looking For
This role requires exceptional dedication because students deserve our absolute best. We need someone who:
- Lives the mission and treats every implementation as real stakes — because for the district on the other end of the line, it is
- Thrives in K-12 implementation timelines — back-to-school launches, summer remediation kickoffs, mid-year onboardings — and takes pride in helping build a Tech Ops function still in its early chapters
- Takes end-to-end ownership of an implementation: kickoff → SIS sync → rostering → SSO → first lesson launch → clean handoff to CS
- Works with presence — Austin office, 5 days/week. IT troubleshooting moves at the speed of someone tapping you on the shoulder, not 90 minutes between Slack replies. The team feels the difference between a TPM who's in the room and one who isn't.
- Operates at a high-output, high-ownership pace — implementations stack, escalations land, and the work doesn't wait
We're not looking for people who can tolerate the bar. We're looking for people who set it higher than we do — for whom "the integration is configured" isn't enough, and who won't be satisfied until students are actually using the product to learn.
What We Offer
- Highly competitive compensation
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
- Lunch and dinner provided, daily
- $100/mo. lifestyle and fitness stipend
- Flexible PTO
- The opportunity to work on a mission-driven product that directly impacts students and teachers every day
- Personal and professional growth for those who apply themselves
If you're a workaholic like the rest of us here at Subject, apply now. We'd love to learn more about you.
