Venice Arts is a 32-year-old, non-profit m edia arts education organization w hose m ission is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low -incom e youth through photography and film education, and to use its participatory storytelling practices to am plify the voices of underrepresented com m unities. Teaching Assistant Description Venice Arts is seeking creative individuals w ith an interest in education to serve as Teaching Assistants (TA). TAs are im portant in our M edia Arts and M entoring program ; they provide support to Lead Teaching Artists and w ork closely w ith youth ages 9-18. Specifically, TAs are expected to perform the follow ing responsibilities: ● Assist w ith classroom set-up and breakdow n including m aterial distribution during class ● Provide technical support to students and the lead teaching artist ● Provide m entoring support and feedback to students 1:1 and in sm all groups ● M aintaining digital class files on individual devices and Google D rive Qualifications The ideal Teaching Assistant is an em erging photographer, film m aker, anim ator, or illustrator, w ith an interest in m edia arts and/or arts education, and has the follow ing qualities: ● Experience w ith Google suites including Google D rive ● Basic understanding of storytelling structure and principles of design/art ● Strong com m unication skills and and attention to detail ● Basic know ledge of digital SLR cam eras and studio lighting equipm ent ● Basic know ledge of Adobe Creative Suite ● Experience w ith Procreate, Flip A Clip, and D ragonfram e is a plus Candidates should be organized and m otivated, and be com fortable w ith w orking w ith youth in a com m unity-based setting. Finally, candidates w ill have a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives, and experiences, and w ill create a w elcom ing environm ent for all students. W e strongly prefer candidates w ho are interested in building a sustained relationship w ith Venice Arts and w ho consider education a part of their professional plan. Mixed Media: Made in LA | July 6-17 | M onday-Friday, 8:30am -12:30pm * 3. Photo Mix | July 6-17 | M onday-Friday, 12:30-4:30pm * 4. Video Editing Experiments | July 6-17 | M onday-Friday, 12:30-4:30pm * 5. Seeing Light | July 20-31 | M onday-Friday, 12:30-4:30pm * *Preference is given for candidates w ho can assist m ore than 1 of these w orkshops. Compensation This is a part tim e, non exem pt, hourly position starting at $20/hour.
