Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute also supports the faith-based mission of the school by modeling respectful behavior, reinforcing Catholic values, and helping maintain a positive, structured learning environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher
  • Deliver instruction and supervise students in a variety of grade levels (e.g., K–8)
  • Maintain classroom order and uphold school discipline policies
  • Create a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment
  • Take attendance and manage classroom routines
  • Adapt to different classroom settings, subjects, and age groups as needed
  • Communicate relevant information about the day to the regular teacher and administration
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, or dismissal as assigned
  • Support and participate respectfully in school prayer or religious activities
Job Requirements
  • Substitute teaching permit or state certification (as required by state/diocese)
  • Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
  • Ability to follow directions and manage a classroom effectively
