Ensuring a safe swimming environment for all learn to swim participants while enforcing all pool rules and regulations; preparing records and certifications. Responsible for the proper instruction of all swim lesson classes, including being in the water with the classes when necessary. Insures that all class students are registered. Organizes and directs activities in order to provide a high quality of instruction for all students. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress. Complete records and reports including submitting Red Cross records and maintaining logs of all lessons taught. Maintain a safe and controlled environment; enforces pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities. Resolves simple public complaints related to swimming instruction and refers other issues to appropriate manager. Adheres to posted job schedule. Attend and participate in mandatory trainings and in-service trainings. Performs related tasks as required.
Thorough knowledge of water safety rules and of life saving and first aid practices and techniques with the ability to perform them; considerable skill and strength in swimming; ability to enforce rules and to remain calm under stress; ability to teach in a group setting and connect with people of varying comfort levels and aquatic skills in the water; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Knowledge of the City of Monroe and Monroe Aquatic and Fitness Center policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, attending high school or work permit.
Possession of Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred.
Possession of Lifeguard certification that includes first-aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training is required.
Possession of valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina, state identification card, or work permit.
Visiting students can provide out of state driver license.
