Description

We are seeking a versatile and innovative Sustainability Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in performing and evaluating whole building analyses and assessments while working closely with multiple project teams to provide data driven outcomes. This role is integral to our commitment to sustainability and design excellence, and includes supporting and mentoring colleagues to elevate building performance modeling practices across the firm.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct energy modeling and simulations using industry-standard software.
  • Execute whole building life cycle assessments (WBLCA) to evaluate environmental impacts of building materials and systems.
  • Conduct lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) to assess economic aspects of building systems over their lifecycle.
  • Perform building energy and decarbonization audits.
  • Provide green building certification support (LEED, WELL, Passive House, etc).
  • Provide incentive and rebate program support (Efficiency Maine, Mass Saves, etc.)
  • Perform analyses for on-site renewable energy.
  • Support internal sustainability reporting for AIA 2030, MEP 2040, SE 2050.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate energy modeling into the overall design process.
  • Analyze and interpret data to inform design decisions, develop energy conversation measures, and optimize building performance.
  • Prepare reports and present findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.
  • Provide education, mentoring, and technical support to colleagues to improve energy modeling capabilities across disciplines.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to help embed building performance thinking into the firm’s design culture.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Degree in architecture, engineering, environmental science, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Several years of experience in energy modeling and building performance analysis and familiarity with software such as Revit, OneClick LCA, Tally, InDesign, IESVE, HAP, and/or Trace.
  • Possess an understanding of local and national energy codes and policies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Innovative thinking and creativity in developing sustainable and efficient building solutions.
