The Opportunity: – Operational responsibility from the HD’s through Stock Prep, Wet End, Dryer Section, Coater, Winder, Roll Line and Color Plant.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Safety:
- Report and address all safety concerns during shift safety/production meeting at first of shift with all operational departments(Paper, Utility, Recovery, Pulp, Shipping, Woodyard, and Test Station).
- Understands/enforces mill safety policies/procedures. Ensures all crew members are aware of, and adhere to, safety policies/procedures.
- Initiates accident/incident investigation on all events occurring on his/her shift.
- Coordinates/authorizes shutdown, lock-out, confined space, hot work procedures on shift.
- Performs proactive safety activities (Two minute drills, safety contacts, audits, JHA, HR cards, etc).
Quality:
- Understands his/her role with respect to the WestRock Quality policy and applies these principles to resolving daily issues.
- Monitors quality tests throughout the shift and confirms procedures are followed for sheet/roll defect inspections. Works with Test Station Crew Leader to address quality issues on the machine.
- Closely monitors crews to ensure they are prepared for grade changes in order to minimize transition losses and follows written SOPs.
Production/Mill Reliability:
- Uses Shift Supervisors meeting at the start of each shift to coordinates stock, steam, and water balance with other Paper Machine, Pulp Mill, Recovery, and Power House to optimize total production with resources and cost.
- Reviews production results compared to goal frequently over course of shift. Leads troubleshooting efforts on issues impacting production or quality. Logs, reports all significant rejects, downtime or speed losses and corrective action.
- Confirms crew is aware of all operational liabilities and prepared to execute short down list items.
- Performs routine rounds each shift of specified equipment and processes in his/her area.
- Leads and directs crews during normal operations and hayouts and also during maintenance down time for clothing changes and cleanup and system LOTO for operational work and maintenance work.
Cost:
- Understands key cost drivers for processes under his/her control. Identifies and addresses losses/wastes of fiber, water, steam/condensate, chemicals, etc… or potential for clothing damage.
Environmental:
- Understands the Mahrt Operations Environmental Policy and related responsibilities and procedures.
- Immediately reports any environmental excursions to the Powerhouse (HAZMAT Team Lead), Environmental and Paper Machine Superintendent or duty person on call.
Performance Criteria:
- Monitor performance against objectives for their shift and the overall machine KPIs in safety, quality, production, cost, environmental and organizational effectiveness.
- Individual performance objectives will be aligned with dept KPIs and reflected in IPPE objectives.
- Adherence to the SOP responsibilities and performance in coordinating activities for their shift crew activities and with other departments on shift
What you need to succeed:
- >10 yrs. Paper Machine Operational experience or a BS in engineering with previous papermaking experience – preferred
- Adequate computer skills – e-mail, Pi, Opti-Vision, Kronos, intranet applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, SAP stores/WO functions, etc
