The Support Vehicle Mechanic must have a thorough knowledge of all components of METRO's vehicles and their proper function as required for job classification. Additionally, the Support Vehicle Master Mechanic must show a proficient knowledge and use of equipment and specialized tools related to classification requirements. The Support Vehicle Master Mechanic must independently service, diagnose and troubleshoot defects on METRO’s Support Vehicles and METROLift fleets and effectively repair to completion all defects in a timely manner. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific DutiesHigh school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a related technical school is preferred.
Years & Experience RequiredCandidates with Automotive Medium/Heavy Truck, Transit or School Bus ASE Certification and/or relative work experience will undergo assessment and be placed according within their skill level grade classification.
Knowledge & Skills RequiredAutomotive Service Excellence Certification (ASE) is required within 180 days of employment. (METRO Provides all mechanics with ASE test materials, registration, and testing.)
Automobile A1, A2, A4, A5 – A1 Engine Repair, A2 Automatic Transmission, A4 Suspension and Steering, A5 Brakes (Required within 180 days of employment.). Failure to obtain the required ASE certifications within 180 days of employment will result in disqualification in accordance with the labor agreement.
EPA 608 Type II & EPA 609 MVAC Refrigerant Handling Certification required within 180 days of employment.
A valid Commercial Texas Driver’s License “A” endorsement required and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. The ability to drive any Authority owned support vehicle. Able to maintain or obtain additional certification/licenses as required. Possess complete knowledge of all tools and equipment in shop related to job classification. Must maintain a basic set of personal hand tools to perform repairs related to job classification with exception of specialized tools provided by METRO. Applicants will be required to obtain a valid Commercial Texas Driver’s License “A “endorsement within 180 days. Failure to obtain a valid Commercial Texas Driver’s License “A” endorsement within180 days will result in disqualification in accordance with the labor agreement. Ability to complete written reports, records and forms. Must be able to speak, read and write English.
