Job Description

General Description:

Responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the organization’s supply chain operations, including procurement (purchasing), supplier management, logistics, warehousing, and MRP. This position is part of the company’s strategic leadership team and plays a key role in ensuring material availability, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery within a complex manufacturing environment.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Procurement:

  • Oversee and manage MRP processes
  • Ensure product configurations remain accurate and up to date, including minimum stock levels, lead times, vendor pricing, and related data
  • Coordinate demand forecasting and production planning in partnership with sales, operations, and finance teams
  • Supervise one or more buyers responsible for executing MRP activities
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to balance service requirements with cash flow goals

Supply Chain Management

  • Ensure supplier-related components of the company’s quality system are effectively implemented
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, including contract negotiation and performance management
  • Oversee supplier evaluation, qualification, and ongoing performance reviews
  • Identify and qualify new sources for products and services
  • Collaborate with laboratory teams to ensure regulatory compliance related to materials

Departmental Excellence

  • Establish, track, and improve Key Performance Indicators over time
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the supply chain team
  • Work closely with cross-functional leaders on strategic initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts across supply chain functions

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on purchasing support as needed, including serving as backup for buyers
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize systems, tools, and technologies to enhance operational performance
  • Participate in ERP implementation at a detailed level, contributing to system design to support long-term organizational needs

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience with purchasing/supply chain management in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with quality system requirements typical of manufacturing (ISO 9001, 13485, AS 9100, etc.)
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and desire to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment without a lot of direct supervision
  • Regular and consistent attendance

Education:

Required:

A post-secondary degree.

Desired:

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, supply chain, or other manufacturing related field
