Job Description
This Superintendent role oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial ground-up construction projects across Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas. You will manage schedules, resources, and field teams while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance on multiple, complex projects. Responsibilities
- Plan and implement all field activities to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.
- Review construction documents for completeness and constructability and identify any potential issues early.
- Review and understand all contract documents to ensure the project team delivers in alignment with contractual requirements.
- Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers and proactively resolve discrepancies.
- Participate in developing and managing the overall project schedule, including detailed three- and six-week look-ahead schedules.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive site logistics plan that supports safe and efficient operations.
- Lead the effective use of company tools, systems, and equipment on the project site.
- Conduct on-site project orientations to ensure all team members understand project expectations, safety standards, and procedures.
- Lead pre-construction planning sessions and project site meetings to align stakeholders and clarify responsibilities.
- Supervise project partners, craft foremen, and field crews to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Interview, hire, transfer, and when necessary, dismiss craft team members in alignment with company policies and project needs.
- Coach and mentor assistant superintendents, craft team members, and other project team members to support their growth and performance.
- Ensure accurate task coding of work hours on time cards for proper cost tracking and reporting.
- Lead and track work progress and craft productivity, adjusting plans as needed to maintain schedule and budget.
- Oversee craft team member training and verify that all required training is current before starting assigned tasks.
- Conduct career development discussions with foremen and craft team members to support retention and professional growth.
- Model inclusive, respectful behavior and build strong working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Provide high-level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance for the project and all team members on site.
- Recognize and mitigate unfavorable or unsafe working conditions promptly.
- Seek opportunities to improve processes and procedures to enhance project delivery and team performance.
- Effectively interpret and communicate company policies to team members and ensure consistent adherence.
- Collaborate closely with project partners, subcontractors, and stakeholders to maintain alignment on scope, schedule, and quality.
- Travel as needed to project sites in Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas to provide on-site leadership and oversight.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent for Superintendent I roles, 8+ years for Superintendent II roles, and 10+ years for Sr Superintendent roles.
- Demonstrated commercial construction experience, including projects such as healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, sports and entertainment, higher education, and lab or pharmaceutical facilities.
- Proven ground-up construction experience with a general contractor.
- Shown ability to fulfill all responsibilities for multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong field management experience in commercial construction environments.
- Experience working for a general contractor or in construction management on commercial projects.
- Subcontractor management experience, including coordination, scheduling, and performance oversight.
- Construction Superintendent experience overseeing crews and field operations.
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks and priorities.
- Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
- Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret and clearly communicate company policies to project teams.
- Active listening skills and effective verbal and written communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback.
- Demonstrated positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills when interacting with clients, partners, and team members.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management is preferred.
- Alternatively, 10 years of trade experience may substitute for a degree.
- Experience on commercial projects such as training facilities, healthcare facilities, student housing, hotels, and lab or pharmaceutical projects is beneficial.
- Experience managing site logistics and developing look-ahead schedules is highly valued.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills to support the development of assistant superintendents, foremen, and craft team members.
- Ability to identify opportunities for process and procedural improvements in field operations.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, salaried, on-site position based at active construction projects in Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas. Work hours typically range from approximately 40 to 50 hours per week, depending on project demands and milestones. You will work in a dynamic field environment overseeing ground-up commercial construction, coordinating closely with subcontractors, design professionals, and internal project teams. Travel to Tucson and Las Vegas project sites is required as needed, with per diem provided for team members traveling from other locations. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
