MajorDuties

  • This position can be assigned in any of the divisions within the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC). The trainee will work alongside experienced staff members to learn the skills necessary to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study related to community planning, and to develop their career in this field. The trainee will gain practical experience and knowledge of the planning field while completing various tasks assigned to them. Complexity of work is assigned equivalent to relative experience and education. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assisting in the execution of various projects and initiatives. Participating in team meetings and brainstorming sessions. Conducting research and analysis to support divisional objectives. Organizing and preparing information and statistical data in factual reports. Preparing visual aids (charts, maps, etc.), to use in presenting information to a community. Completing assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Researching and investigating new or improved business and management practices for application to agency programs or operations. Writing draft reports of research findings. Attending training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills. Interns will be placed in one of three divisions at NCPC: The Current Planning Division supports the Commission and its monthly meetings. Reviewing applicant plans and development projects, it prepares recommendations for Commission decisions. Activities also include media relations and legal counsel. The Long-Range Planning Division, through comprehensive planning, identifies critical issues and opportunities facing the federal government in the region, evaluates policy options and priorities, and works with the Commission and partners in developing an agenda for public and private action. The Operations and Administration Division supports the Commission and staff in the areas of human capital management; finance and budgeting; procurement and contracting; facilities management; information technology; and other logistics.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be suitable for Federal employment.
