Join Our Team: As a Seasonal Summer Day Camp Director with the City of West Linn Parks & Recreation!
The City of West Linn is seeking a dependable, responsible, and enthusiastic individual with strong leadership skills to join our team as a Full time temporary(non-benefited) Summer camp Director to work in the Parks & Recreation Department’s summer programs May-August.
This position supervises youth summer day camp programs at 2 different sites with kids at the camps ranging in age from 5-12. The Camp Director is responsible for day-to-day operations and ensuring the safety and well-being of participants and staff. Key Responsibilities include supervising Recreation Leaders and Recreation Supervisors, providing creative leadership, input for program content, and overall supervision of each program. Workweek will be Monday-Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., however, additional weekend and evening duties may be assigned. Must be available from May- August 2026
- Supervise staff and youth at day camp programs.
- Reports to assigned Recreation Coordinator
- Oversight of daily operations of 2 summer camps
- Ability to effectively communicate with recreation attendants, site supervisors, parents, and campers.
- Supervise the organization and scheduling of activities for the participants attending camps and programs. These activities will include games, arts & crafts, sports, drama activities, and other special activities.
- Manage both camper and staff behavioral issues.
- Screen and Train youth volunteers.
- Schedule weekly on-site presenters
- Coordinate weekly field trips, ensuring appropriate supplies, activities and communication with all relevant parties.
- Order supplies as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and Serve as Timekeeper for Site Supervisors and Recreation Attendants
- Ensure and enforce that the staff, as specified, maintains the sites.
- Train and Ensure Supervisors, Recreation Leaders and Volunteers are implementing the recreation program as directed by the City of West Linn Parks and Recreation Department.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Successful candidate must be 18 years of age.
- Valid Driver's license and a good driving record
- Requires daily attendance.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification required (free training is provided before camp starts)
- Must pass a pre-employment screening process
- Ability to organize, direct and coordinate multiple tasks related to several programs at several site locations.
- Ability to deal with diverse populations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with other employees.
- Ability to understand and implement program policies.
- Ability to supervise 12-14 staff members.
- High school graduate or GED.
Experience and Training- Educational background in recreation, therapeutic recreation, education or related experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Current certification in First Aid and C.P.R. preferred (free training will be offered)
