We're currently hiring for an Entry Level SUE Technician on behalf of one of our clients in Charleston, SC!

Job Description

The SUE Technician safely operates subsurface utility engineering (SUE) and survey equipment to locate and document a wide range of underground utilities in the field. This role supports the SUE Analyst and field crew, often working independently on project sites to collect accurate data in varied and sometimes challenging outdoor environments. Responsibilities

  • Assist the SUE Analyst in the operation of a SUE field crew, ensuring accurate and efficient completion of field assignments.
  • Operate SUE field equipment safely, including ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer cameras, probe rods, jackhammers, chop saws, pneumatic tampers, vacuum excavation equipment, and other geophysical tools.
  • Use survey equipment such as total stations, GPS, SUE locating equipment, and hydrographic equipment to collect precise field data.
  • Locate and document a variety of underground utilities, including gas lines, cable lines, septic tank pipes, underground storage tanks, storm drains, and telecommunication lines.
  • Work independently on project sites, managing tasks and time effectively while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Lead a small field crew when needed, providing direction and support to ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform field work outdoors for extended periods, walking through urban, suburban, and rural terrain in a wide range of weather and site conditions.
  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret field conditions, identify utility locations, and resolve issues encountered on site.
  • Follow established processes and procedures to ensure consistent, accurate, and compliant field operations.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order, performing basic checks and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Travel regularly to project sites throughout South Carolina and Georgia, including occasional overnight stays as required.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members regarding site conditions, progress, and any challenges that arise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on airports, railroads, construction sites, and industrial sites is a plus.
  • Comfort working alone when required, as well as collaborating effectively within a field crew.
  • Adaptable and steady demeanor, with the ability to remain focused in changing or challenging site conditions.
  • Helpful and team-oriented attitude, supporting colleagues and contributing positively to project outcomes.
  • Detail-oriented and consistent in following procedures, documenting findings, and maintaining records.
  • Interest in professional growth and taking advantage of training, mentoring, and development opportunities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr.
