Work involves manual labor in all aspects of street department and public works operations, to include snow removal, truck driving, equipment operator, garbage/recycling collector and drop-off attendant. Work unsupervised, alone or with a group. Work in other classifications will be assigned as necessary.- Operate air hammer, concrete/asphalt saw, weed whip, chainsaw, tar kettles, painting equipment and other related hand tools.
- Perform manual labor on street repair, painting, garage maintenance, and other various labor duties.
- Plow snow on city sidewalks, city parking lots or other areas as assigned.
- Substitute as laborer for garbage, recycling collector and drop-off attendant.
- Truck driving for dump, garbage, recycling and snow plow vehicles.
- Work as laborer on curbside leaf and Christmas tree collection.
- Work as laborer on street patching crew.
- Assist in setting up traffic control barricades and signs.
- Assist in banner, flag, and Christmas decoration set up and removal as required.
- Perform other manual labor tasks as assigned.
- Assist with traffic signal/street light repair/maintenance.
High School Diploma or GED required.Valid Class B CDL ( Commercial Drivers License) with air brake test completed and passed or the ability to obtain CDL in six months.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Must be able to work day or night hours with minimal notice.
- Must be able to stand and walk continuously 6-8 hours per day 5 days per week.
- Must be able to bend, squat and twist to lift 51-100 pounds occasionally and 20-50 pounds continuously.
- Must have no limitations that impair doing the responsibilities of the position with either left or right hands.
- Must have no impairments that result from continuous exposure to odors from solid waste or yard waste.
- Must be able to work in all outdoor environmental conditions from extreme heat, rain, snow, humidity, to extreme cold.
- Must have no limitations for occasionally working above heights that exceed 12 feet.
- Must have no limitations on seat belt use.
- Thorough knowledge of all state and local traffic laws.
- Knowledge of department operating procedures.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to write legibly for data collection and completion of reports.
- Understanding the mechanics and use of chainsaws, concrete saws, air hammers, weed whips, patchers, tampers, concrete mixers and various other hand tools.
- Knowledge of snow removal procedures.
- Knowledge on operation of dump trucks, garbage trucks, snow removal equipment and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of proper safety procedures.
