Job Description:

Lead the organization driving strategy and architecture forComputeServer Storage Architecture.

DelivertheServer StorageArchitecture strategy for Future HPE Compute servers:

  • IdentifythelikelyStorage(HDD and SSD)technologies to be offered with Compute servers.

  • Recommend thetypesand quantities ofStorage Optionsthatcustomerswill needto support their workloads.

  • Influence form factors, chassis size,interfacessupported, device form factors supported, numbers of lanes, thermals/power, and manageability support.

  • Strive for best solutions that achieve support for thelikelyOptions portfolio, balancingflexibilityand cost.

Unique mastery and recognized authority on relevant subject matter knowledge including technologies,theoriesand techniques. Contributes to the development of innovative principles and ideas. Successfullyoperatesin the most complex disciplines, in which the company mustoperateto be successful. Provides highly innovative solutions. Leadsandparticipatesinlarge, cross-division functional teams or projects that affect the organization's long-term goals andobjectives. Provides mentoring and guidance tolower and higher-levelemployees. Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods,techniquesand criteria for achievingobjectives. Develops strategy and sets functional policy and direction. Acts as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary job function.

Responsibilities:

  • Activelyparticipatesand drivesnew technologiesinto industry standards, technical conferences, and other forums to influence the industry to align with HPE priorities.

  • Research andevaluateemerging drive and storage technologies and industry trends to gain a comprehensive understanding of the market and technologies.

  • Serve as a trusted SME for customers, Product and Senior Management, Cross-BU technical leaders, and other stakeholders within the company.

  • Develop andmaintainclose technical relationshipswithkey stakeholders at technologysupplierpartnersto influence theirlong-termroadmapsto align with HPE priorities.

  • Work closely with platform firmware, hardware, and storage controller R&D teams to influenceplatformsystem architecture and design to beoptimizedfor new storage technologies, form factors, and interfaces.

  • Track and influence industry storage trends and how they may interact with other technologies, e.g., storage controllers, CXL, GPUs.

  • Evaluatenew technologiesforalignment toarchitecture requirementsand standards; integrates innovations into overall architecture and leadsserver storageplatform architecture.

  • Leverages recognized domainexpertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of executive business leadership, development partners, and industry standards groups.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring tootherstaff members.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's orMaster's degree inComputer orElectrical Engineeringor equivalent experience.

  • Typically10+years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum 7years experiencein the server storage or storage industry.

  • Experience in overall architecture ofcomputerhardware for products and solutions.

  • Extensive experience with ServerStorage andDrives(HDD and SSD).

  • Experience driving efforts inIndustry Standards groups, e.g.,OCP,SNIA, TCG,JEDEC.

  • Deep knowledge ofserver storage architecture, HDDs,SSDs, EDSFF, SED and FIPS,andstorage protocols (SAS/SATA/NVMe/CXL).

  • Creatively innovative with a provenimplementationtrack record.

  • Excellent communication skills with small and large groups, senior management, technologist, and external partners.

  • Must be able to think strategically about the big picture while also knowing technical details.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build people networks.

  • Outstanding written communication skills includingPowerPoint.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at business unit and executive levels.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of internal drive architecture (NAND, controllers, magnetic media, heads, etc.).

  • Experience capturingandanalysingprotocol traces.

  • Sideband interfaces I2C, I3C, and USB 2.0

  • Management protocols (e.g.,NVMe-MI, PLDM)

  • Security protocols (TCG Enterprise/Opal, SPDM) and hardware features (HWRoT-basedsecure boot), PQC algorithms and timelinetransition requirements.
