Location

The ideal candidate is based in the Austin, TX area and is comfortable working onsite at the client location.


Summary:

The Storage Administrator supports the VINCI secure research enclave and associated infrastructure at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, and maintenance of SAN and NAS storage environments that support sensitive VA health research data and operational workloads. The candidate will work within a secure, closed-network enclave and must adhere to VA security and compliance requirements at all times.


Required Qualifications

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain SAN and NAS storage systems in support of VINCI and CDW platform operations at AITC and Azure-connected environments
  • Provision and manage storage volumes, LUNs, file shares, and storage pools to meet capacity and performance requirements
  • Monitor storage capacity, performance metrics, and health status; respond to alerts and resolve incidents within defined SLAs
  • Plan and execute storage expansions, migrations, and decommissions in coordination with infrastructure, DBA, and platform teams
  • Support backup and recovery operations, including snapshot management and restore validation for SQL Server and research data stores
  • Maintain storage documentation including configuration baselines, capacity plans, and change records
  • Troubleshoot and resolve storage-related incidents escalated from operations staff
  • 3–6 years of experience administering enterprise SAN/NAS storage environments
  • Hands-on experience with storage platforms such as Dell EMC, NetApp, Pure Storage, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Fibre Channel (FC), zoning, and fabric management
  • Experience with Windows Server storage integration (NTFS, SMB, or DFS)
  • Understanding of backup/recovery concepts, snapshot technologies, or data retention policies
  • Ability to obtain a public trust
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server storage (tempdb, data/log file management, backup targets)
  • Familiarity with FISMA compliance frameworks and ATO documentation support
  • Experience in VA OIT or other federal agency IT environments
  • Dell EMC, NetApp, or Pure Storage vendor certifications
  • Experience with Azure storage integration or hybrid cloud storage models
  • Familiarity with Hyper-V or VMware storage (VMFS, VHDX, storage vMotion)
  • Experience participating in change advisory board (CAB) processes


Compensation:

The salary is budgeted at $115,000-$125,000 annually, plus benefits. ThunderYard offers benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k matching, PTO, certification reimbursement and more.
