(ETCHSI) JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Staff Physician Reports To:Medical Director JOB SUMMARY: Inacommunity health center setting, andhome setting forhomebound patients, providespreventiveandprimarymedical care (inselected instances secondary care) consistent with theprovider’s training andexperience with follow-up inahospital setting when appropriate topatients ofETCHSL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: I.Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses their medical conditions, prescribes andcarries out,ordirects others incarrying out,appropriate medical treatment, orrefers individuals for specialty consultation ortreatment inconformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines. 2.Manages thecareofpatients incollaboration with other health careprofessionals andmembers ofthehealth careteam inorder tomake decisions about treatment andattain health goals. 3.Records accurately and completely patient-provider visits/contacts asthey occur inthe patient’s medical record sothat themedical record reflects thecondition ofthepatient and thecare ortreatment provided. Inaddition, theprovider shall complete patient referrals, other records andpaperwork asrequired bytheentity. 4.Educates individuals inthenature ofhealth-related conditions andinthegeneral promotion of health-related disease prevention. 5.Assists intheprovision ofcontinuing education, on-the-job training andtheorientation of ETCHSI staff asrequested. 6.Participates inarotating on-call schedule forETCHSI patients asassigned. 7.Reviews laboratory reports, specialty referral reports andother patient related paperwork daily. 8.Manage in-patient hospital careforETCHSI patients when needed andwhen appropriate. 9.Maintains andupdates skills andknowledge toappropriate professional level with continuing education courses andeducational materials. 10.Responsible forpersonal andprofessional compliance with allapplicable federal, state, local and ETCH SIpolicy, regulations, protocols andprocedures governing thepractice ofmedicine andthe clinical provision ofmedical care aswell asthose relating to,butnotlimited to,personnel issues, work place safety, public health andconfidentiality. 11.Travels when necessary tofulfill theentity’s needs and attends meetings asnecessary to represent ETCHSI. 12.Ifbilingual, translates inSpanish between non-Spanish speaking staff andSpanish speaking patients asrequested. 13.Performs other related and/or necessary tasks toachieve organizational andprogrammatic goals andobjectives, asdirected byasupervisor. Identifies andmeets educational needs forself. 7.Isreceptive toguidance andconstructive criticism. 8.Attends ETCHSI educational programs. 9.Attends andparticipates instaff meetings. 10.Demonstrates awillingness toparticipate andfollow through with special projects and committees. 11.Abides byETCHSI attendance policy andestablished procedures fornotification incaseof absence. 12.Takes initiative inresolving problems andconflicts. 13.Assists inmaintaining asafe, secure andaseptic environment forallpatients andemployees. 14.Adheres toregulatory agency requirements with respect toinfectious disease andhazardous materials. 15.Isfamiliar with andabides byOSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials, Universal Precautions, use ofpersonal protective equipment, Evacuation, Fire, Disaster, andSafety Plans. 16.Uses appropriate body mechanics andfollows safety procedures. 17.Obtains annual TBtestandattends Safety Recertification annually. 18.Completes Incident Reports within 24hours ofincident andturns them intotheSafety Officer. EDUCATION andTRAINING: 1.Graduation from anaccredited medical school orschool ofosteopathic medicine 2.Completion ofanaccredited residency program inFamily Practice Medicine oranother appropriate specialty. 3.Ability tobeclinically fluent inSpanish preferred. 4.Ability tomaintain appropriate clinical andhospital privileges required. 5.FTCA coverage orprivate professional malpractice insurance obtainable. 6.Excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills required. LICENSURE andCREDENTIALS: 1.Unrestricted license topractice medicine orosteopathic medicine intheState ofTexas (not applicable tocommissioned NHSC PHS officers). 2.Current CPR (BLS) certification. ACLS and/or ATLS certificationspreferred. 3.Texas DPS andDEA registrations. 4.Medicare andMedicaid provider numbers. SKILLS andABILITIES: Requires acomprehensive knowledge ofprimary medical careinout-patient andin-patient settings. Knowledge oftheprinciples andpractice ofmodern medicine. TheETCHSI Staff Physician must be cognizant oftheprevalent health andsocial stressors onthepatients andtheimpact ofthese ontheir practice ofmedicine. AStaff Physician must beable totreat patients from adiversity ofsocial and ethnic backgrounds andtowork creatively asamernber ofahealth-oriented team composed ofhealth careprofessionals from avariety ofdisciplines forthehealing andbetterment ofETHCSI patients.TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged sitting orstanding may berequired. Those physical movements and thedegree of mobility normally associated with thepractice ofprimary care medicine will beperformed ona repetitive basis. Theability todistinguish letters andsymbols, aswell astheability toutilize telephones, computer terminals andcopiers isrequired. Work under stressful conditions aswell as irregular hours may berequired. Frequent exposure tocommunicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation andother conditions common toaclinical environment may routinely beencountered.
