Role description:

As a Staff Environmental Engineer, you will work alongside scientists, engineers, project managers, and technical experts on various activities in support of diverse environmental assessment and remediation projects. You will be involved in a mix of process-mechanical technical work, such as remediation system detailed design, operation and maintenance of systems and project task management, such as coordinating field work conducted out of other offices and managing project schedules and budgets. This role requires a self-starter and leadership attitude and the willingness to train and mentor junior staff. 

Role accountabilities:

  • Lead (with PM and senior staff guidance) environmental remedial systems and assessments, including preparation of detailed design drawings (process-mechanical, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams), technical specifications, and design calculations (basis of design, pump hydraulic, and gravity flow).
  • Willingness to learn and expand skillset: Additional project work may involve process-mechanical support of excavation dewatering design, conveyance design, demolition and supporting infrastructure design, utility isolation and expansion design, and new facility design. 
  • Prepare startup plans and standard operating procedures with guidance from senior staff.
  • Coordinate with various engineering design disciplines to produce cohesive design documents.
  • Delegate to junior staff or drafting staff to produce design drawings.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Assist with the development of Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study Reports, this includes the coordination of figure generation, data management, work plans, and/or other required supporting documents.
  • Coordinate and participate in field activities which include onsite treatment system startup and engineering oversight during construction. 
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of subcontractors.
  • Coordinate field activities which may include contractor/vendor oversight for site characterization, soil sampling and/or groundwater/remediation well installation and construction, groundwater sampling, and excavation oversight.
  • Perform remedial system operation and maintenance (O&M), and monitoring.  Assist in preparation of O&M reports.
  • Participating in task management/associate project management tasks such as budgets and change orders.
  • Participating in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies; presentation of results and findings from site investigation and remediation activities.
  • Travelling (up to 25%): assisting in the field with construction, startup activities, inspections, conducting pilots and full-scale remedial efforts, and participating in face-to-face client, technical, and other stakeholder meetings. 

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and appropriate annual refresher certifications
  • Engineer-In-Training certification or Professional Engineering license 
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
