Staff Accountant

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant will: complete gross margin analyses related to the company's products; keep track of inventory quantities and values; help to calculate costs of goods sold on the company's financial reports; keep track of factory costs and variances from expectations; review and update manufacturing rates and costs for use in valuation of inventory and calculation of selling prices for products.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, labor costs, benefits costs, and factory overhead.
  • Maintain data pertaining to full import supply chain for finished goods and other imported materials, including container costs, fees, handling charges, etc.
  • Analyze changes in product design, materials, manufacturing methods, and/or services provided to determine effects on costs – update item costs as needed
  • Collect direct labor and product development labor information and prepare reports for distribution to relevant management personnel
  • Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close of the General Ledger
  • Conduct physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
  • Reconcile all inventories of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods
  • Other assignments and responsibilities as directed by management.


Position Qualifications:

  • The Staff Accountant must be able to use MRP software as well as software containing spreadsheets with complicated formulas.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the company as well as with certain outside parties such as auditors and suppliers.
  • The position will be responsible for preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed as well as work with multiple deadlines and functional areas.
  • Strong Excel skills as well as the ability to work with Access, Outlook, and Word are required.


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 solid years of cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Cost systems background with understanding of a standard cost environment
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience with Global Shop Solutions is a plus.
  • Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards
  • Excel proficient
