Job Title: Software EngineerJob DescriptionThis Software Engineer role focuses on defining and implementing scalable cloud architectures, maintaining and extending cloud-based applications, and ensuring the delivery of secure, high-quality cloud services. You will collaborate closely with a local team and an offshore development team to build innovative, data-driven cloud solutions that can scale to many customers and be applied across multiple industries.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the local team to understand business and technical needs and translate them into clear technical requirements.
- Define and refine an ideal, scalable cloud architecture that supports a growing number of customers and use cases.
- Coordinate with an offshore development team to develop and maintain a roadmap for achieving the long-term cloud architecture vision.
- Work with the offshore development team to ensure high-quality deliverables that meet established standards and requirements.
- Meet with other Cloud Project Leads to understand departmental norms and promote consistency across tools, code style, and development practices.
- Maintain and extend cloud applications and infrastructure originally built by an offshore team, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
- Develop proof-of-concept solutions and tailored assets as needed to validate ideas and support customer or internal needs.
- Communicate clear requirements, technical direction, and feedback to the offshore team to keep projects aligned and on track.
- Provide regular status reports and escalate issues or risks to the local team in a timely and transparent manner.
- Design and build secure interfaces (APIs) and custom protocols for cloud services and systems.
- Design and implement data-driven cloud architectures that leverage appropriate storage, caching, and messaging technologies.
- Apply cybersecurity principles and protocols to build end-to-end secure cloud systems.
- Participate in all phases of software development, including feasibility, design, implementation, integration, testing, and support, especially for complex, multi-domain systems.
- Develop a variety of applications, ranging from low-fidelity proof-of-concepts to production-intent solutions.
- Use containers and orchestration frameworks to deploy and manage cloud-based services where applicable.
Essential Skills- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience with JavaScript, C#, Kotlin, or similar programming languages.
- 5+ years of experience building secure cloud services and systems.
- Hands-on experience designing and building interfaces (APIs) and custom protocols.
- Experience designing and building data-driven cloud architectures.
- Strong expertise with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including services such as EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, VPC, Lambda, and API Gateway.
- Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases and document-oriented storage solutions.
- Experience with caching technologies such as Redis.
- Experience with message brokers such as MQTT.
- Understanding of network protocols, including TCP and HTTP.
- Experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized workloads.
- Experience working with cloud and cybersecurity concepts to build secure systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex problems and solutions to engineers from different domains.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience building data streaming applications.
- Experience building and deploying cloud systems with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Ability to develop a range of applications, from low-fidelity proof-of-concepts to production-intent solutions.
- Experience applying cybersecurity principles and protocols to design and implement end-to-end secure systems.
- Experience using containers and orchestration frameworks such as Docker Swarm and Kubernetes.
- Experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including feasibility, design, implementation, integration, testing, and support, ideally on complex, multi-domain systems.
- Familiarity with SQL databases and TCP protocols.
- Experience working with cloud technologies and JavaScript in production environments.
Work EnvironmentYou will work in a dynamic startup-style environment within a large, global Tier 1 context, where problem solving, collaboration, and comfort with ambiguity are essential. The culture emphasizes innovation and the development of a product that has never been built before and can be applied across many industries. The role follows a hybrid schedule: Mondays and Fridays are typically remote, with the possibility of coming into the office depending on workload, while Tuesdays through Thursdays are on-site at the Southfield office. The position is structured as a 1-year contract with the opportunity to transition to a direct role after one year, subject to budget and performance. The environment is highly collaborative, cloud-focused, and centered on building secure, scalable systems using AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, SQL/NoSQL databases, and modern development practices.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $68.00/hr.
