Job Summary

Vertiv is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer, Electronics Hardware to be part of Vertiv’s Core Engineering Electronics team. The team includes groups based in both the United States and India and consists of 30+ engineers.  The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of electronic circuit boards in support of products of multiple global lines of business, as well as the support for Vertiv’s global electronics component libraries.  The team also includes a group of component engineers who work to identify and evaluate alternate components, track, and respond to component availability issues, and maintain component information in Vertiv’s global PLM system.  

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as part of the Electronics team in the implementation of electronic designs and associated collateral in a consistent and timely manner, on budget, and with high quality. 
  • Ensure system designs meet requirements and are technically sound. Validate designs through simulation and testing, including ordering, verifying, and modifying prototypes.
  • Recommend, validate, and test component alternates when required.
  • Leverage AI and automation tools to reduce time to market, improve quality, and reduce cost.
  • Work in coordination with international design teams, external suppliers and consultants as appropriate.  
  • Collaborate with project management, offering management, development engineering, and test engineering around the globe.  As part of the product life cycle, support and maintain the product design.
  • As a part of the Core Engineering organization, he / she will be expected to meet a set of SLAs and KPIs for electronics hardware design

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required.  An advanced engineering degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electronics design, with a strong preference for experience in the design and layout of high-speed microprocessor-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple simultaneous development projects, including both planned development efforts and ongoing product maintenance.
  • A solid understanding of product test design concepts, with an emphasis on design for automated testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of modern electronic design tools.  PCB schematic capture and Layout development experience using Siemens Xpedition EDM toolset is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, data loggers, power sources, etc.
  • Experience is design simulation and validation tools is preferred, including Hyperlynx Signal Integrity, Power Integrity, and Thermal Integrity or similar tools.
  • History of successfully developing, releasing, and maintaining commercial and/or industrial electronic products, demonstrating a solid understanding of full product lifecycle management.
  • A solid understanding of electronic design concepts, including processor and memory subsystem structure and interface design, is required.  Experience with analog electronics, wireless systems, environmental sensors, and IoT is preferred. 
  • Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma concepts is required.  Formal DFx training or a Six Sigma Green Belt is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision and in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, both domestically and internationally.
  • Residence near (or willingness to relocate to) the Westerville, Ohio area is required.
  • Experience working with teams in India and China is strongly preferred.
