Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer / PLC Controls Engineer II to lead and execute automation and controls projects for material handling systems. This role is responsible for the planning, management, implementation, and commissioning of electrical and controls projects, while serving as the Lead Engineer for integrated systems or subsystems.
The ideal candidate will take full ownership of project execution, including technical implementation, resource coordination, project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and customer communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply established engineering methodologies to project tasks and deliverables.
- Lead automation projects for material handling and e-commerce clients.
- Develop, implement, and troubleshoot PLC code for material handling equipment.
- Review AutoCAD layouts, electrical schematics, and system designs to support programming activities.
- Test PLC prototypes internally and at customer sites for new installations and project modifications.
- Execute and support commissioning activities, including startup and system validation.
- Ensure coding standards and commissioning practices align with company standards.
- Execute all testing activities including Internal Testing, FAT, UAT, BUAT, and Customer Acceptance Testing.
- Monitor project schedules, task lists, and timelines while providing regular progress updates.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Prepare and maintain project reports, technical documentation, and status updates.
- Attend weekly project and team meetings to review schedules, priorities, and deliverables.
- Coordinate and forecast electrical engineering resources both internally and at customer sites.
- Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience
- Minimum 4 years of Controls Engineering experience in a similar role
- Prior leadership experience as a Project Lead, Project Manager, Supervisor, Team Lead, or similar role
- Experience supporting E-Commerce Material Handling Systems
- Ability and willingness to travel 85%+ of the time (approximately 90%)

- Experience evaluating and recommending technical solutions using industry best practices
- Strong collaboration skills across engineering and operational teams
- Ability to adapt and improve existing processes and working methods
