As a Software Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief Data Office (CDO), you will promote meaningful business impact through the transformation of Data Management across JPMorgan Chase's Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB).
You'll play a critical role in managing and measuring the implementation, adoption, and compliance of Firmwide and CIB Data Standards and associated controls. Your work will involve designing, building, and deploying dashboards and reports—primarily using Qlik—that track key Objectives & Key Results (OKR), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and Key Risk Indicators (KRI) metrics essential to Data Management and Governance objectives.
Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You'll partner with stakeholders across the CIB, including CIB CDO team members, Data Technology Governance Leads, Business Analysts, Data Owners, Application Owners, CIB Information Architecture (CIB IA) team and other areas of Technology and Business.
This position provides exceptional exposure to Data Management and Governance as a discipline, offering a strategic, higher-level view of data and processing that's rare in development roles. You'll be part of a high-profile team supporting some of the bank's most significant programs, with opportunities to make a visible impact on enterprise-wide data initiatives.
Job responsibilities
- Support and Enhance Controls & Reporting: Maintain, develop, and extend the existing CIB controls and reporting processes using Jira, Python, and Qlik, while leveraging APIs to source data from various firmwide metadata systems of record (SORs)
- Design and Maintain Data Integration Pipelines: Build and optimize processes to aggregate, transform, and load data from multiple firmwide metadata systems into a consistent reporting data model
- Build Best-in-Class Metadata Reporting: Influence and deliver a production-grade metadata reporting capability that enables ad-hoc, dynamic, and self-service reporting across diverse data sources
- Drive Data Standard Compliance: Design, build, and deploy dashboards and reports that track OKR, KPI, and KRI metrics to measure implementation progress, adoption, and compliance with the CIB Data Standard and Technical Control Procedures
- Enable Data-Driven Decision Making: Design and deliver intuitive visualizations and reporting solutions that provide stakeholders with clear visibility into metadata quality, lineage, and governance metrics—highlighting areas requiring attention and driving prioritized action on remediation and compliance
- Collaborate Across the Enterprise: Partner with Business Analysts, Data Management Owners, Application Owners, CIB Information Architecture teams, and other Lines of Business to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Ideally the candidate will have minimum 3 years of experience in data integration, reporting, and/or analytics development.
- Strong skills and demonstrable knowledge of developing metrics, dashboards, and reports using Qlik (primarily QlikSense) and Tableau
- Experience in aggregating data from multiple sources (direct database access, API, files, etc.) into a consistent reporting data model
- Use of ETL and ELT tools such as Pentaho, Informatica, Apache Spark, etc. Experience of and confidence in using SQL and Python to implement data integration and reporting solutions
- Experience working with OLTP and OLAP databases as well as NoSQL databases
Understanding of Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Data Lakehouse patterns, with experience working on implementations of these
- Understanding of how to create reporting templates that are configurable
- Experience reporting on metrics that measure how well teams are adopting and adhering to data standards and policies
- An interest in data and an appreciation of the value it can bring to an organization when it is properly understood, organized, and governed
An understanding of the importance that Data Management and Governance play in the organization
Experience communicating unambiguously through multiple channels such as presentations, documents, workshops, and meetings
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Self-starter with adaptability and comfort working in ambiguous, evolving environments
- An understanding of and ideally experience and application of AI/ML techniques
- Knowledge and experience of the Software Engineering Methodologies (e.g. Agile)
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry standards such as BCBS 239 (Basel Committee on Banking Supervision - Principles for effective risk data aggregation and risk reporting), GDPR, CCPA, or other relevant data governance and risk management standards
- A curious and adaptable mindset, with the flexibility to navigate shifting priorities across concurrent workstreams and a willingness to challenge assumptions and bring fresh perspectives
- An ability to envisage and compare potential solutions prior to implementation
- Understanding of modern front-end frameworks and libraries such as React, along with UI toolkits like Bootstrap, to either create new or customize an existing reporting UX (e.g., dashboards)
