Job Title: Software Engineer - Part-Time

Job Description

This Software Engineer role focuses on implementing and testing high-quality vehicle control software for embedded platforms. You will develop and maintain embedded C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink autogenerated software that interacts with various vehicle systems through network messaging and directly connected inputs and outputs. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced automotive control systems while working on a long-term contract with paid vacation and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-quality, maintainable embedded C and C++ software for vehicle control systems.
  • Implement MATLAB and Simulink autogenerated software to run on embedded platforms that control vehicle functions.
  • Integrate software with various vehicle systems using network messaging and direct input/output connections.
  • Support the implementation and test of vehicle control software to ensure reliability, performance, and compliance with requirements.
  • Assist in preparing basic plans, designs, and computation methods related to software and control system development.
  • Support senior engineers by contributing to design documentation, reports, and technical analyses.
  • Participate in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in embedded software and control algorithms.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve software quality, maintainability, and development processes.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in C and C++ programming for embedded systems.
  • Experience developing embedded software that interfaces with hardware inputs and outputs.
  • Ability to write high-quality, maintainable C/C++ and MATLAB autogenerated software.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink for model-based design and code generation.
  • Understanding of vehicle control software or similar real-time control applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Python for scripting, testing, or automation tasks.
  • Knowledge of network messaging protocols used in embedded or automotive systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a technical engineering environment.
  • Attention to detail in documentation, design preparation, and reporting.

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional engineering environment focused on embedded and vehicle control software development. You will work closely with senior engineers, supporting the preparation of basic plans, designs, computation methods, and technical reports. The position is offered as a long-term contract with paid vacation and holidays, providing stability and continuity for ongoing projects. Work is primarily computer-based, using tools such as C/C++ development environments, MATLAB, and Simulink, within a collaborative, team-oriented setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Hagerstown, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
