Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic

Job Description

This role involves fabricating, installing, and hanging galvanized and stainless steel sheet metal ductwork on a commercial renovation project. The sheet metal mechanic cuts and measures sheet metal to fabricate duct, installs duct systems and VAVs, and reads blueprints to lay out and execute their own work with accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Cut and measure galvanized and stainless steel sheet metal to fabricate ductwork according to project specifications.
  • Install and hang sheet metal duct in commercial renovation environments, ensuring secure, accurate, and code-compliant installation.
  • Install VAVs (Variable Air Volume units) and related HVAC components as part of the duct system.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan, lay out, and complete assigned work independently.
  • Lay out work areas and duct runs based on blueprints and site conditions, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
  • Perform sheet metal installation tasks, including fitting, fastening, and sealing ductwork.
  • Coordinate tasks and communicate effectively with a small crew to complete work safely and on schedule.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use required PPE at all times while on site.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience working as a sheet metal mechanic on commercial construction or renovation projects.
  • Strong ability to work with galvanized and stainless steel duct, including cutting, measuring, and fabricating ductwork.
  • Hands-on experience with duct work and duct installation, including hanging and securing duct systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings accurately.
  • Capability to lay out own work based on blueprints and site requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of HVAC and HVAC installation as it relates to duct systems and VAVs.
  • Experience with sheet metal installation in a construction environment.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and wearing required PPE on site.

Work Environment

This position is based on active commercial renovation projects at multiple school facilities. Work takes place on site at several school locations during regular daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work as part of a 4-person crew in a construction environment, performing tasks such as duct installation, HVAC-related work, and sheet metal fabrication. The role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including a hardhat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and a high-visibility T-shirt or vest. The work environment is active and hands-on, with a strong emphasis on safety, coordination with crew members, and adherence to site procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seffner, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
