MajorDuties

  • (1) Independently inspects aircraft and determines the natureand extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders asguidelines. Works directly on the aircraft and its components,fulfilling such tasks as removal, repair, modification and installationof parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, longerons,bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, faring, accessdoors, panels and other related items. May be required to clear red"X" conditions. (2) Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricates and fitspatches to damaged areas, determining repair detail necessary to retainor restore original strength. Fits and trims components to aircraftsuch as landing gear doors, control surfaces, flaps access doors andother assemblies. Seals structures to make them pressure, water andweather tight. (3) Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Removes, forms, fits, and installs highly stressed and double contoured skins, using hand or powered drilling and cutting tools and other metalworking equipment. Determines shear and bearing load factors during rivet replacement. (4) Aligns and balances component structures and airframeusing precision measuring instruments and levels. Performs metal-to-metalbonding where delamination of surfaces and core material occursin control surfaces. (5) Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair orreplacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, andbonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools andequipment. Repairs or replaces retaining frames and installs plasticlaminated blanks. Designs and constructs forming fixtures. (6) Manufactures and ensures that metal tubing, conduits andcables are fabricated and tested in accordance with drawings andspecifications. Fabricates and repairs flexible control cables. (7) Performs fabrication of local manufactured items requitedfor aircraft and equipment. Work includes layout, bending, cutting,forming and assembling. Devise and calculates patterns employing theprinciples of triangulation, radial and parallel line development. (8) Sets up and operates power shears, brakes, rolls,dimpling machines, drill presses, saws, portable powered tools,specific detection and measuring equipment, and other metal workingequipment, including use of other tools of the trade. Requisitionsnecessary supplies and equipment for the activity. (9) Prepares and designs layout, dies, jigs, and templatesnecessary to carry out fabrication repair or modification of aircraft,engine, AGE, and other equipment. Works from blueprints, technicalorders diagrams, and work orders. (10) Identifies metal corrosion. Performs necessary testingto identify type corrosion present by examination with magnifyingequipment, chemical and mechanical methods and treats aircraft engines,in accordance with applicable technical publications. Ensures thatwork assignments received from supervisor or maintenance control areaccomplished in a timely manner. (11) Removes corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures to include use of portable powered (electric and pneumatic) sanders, buffers, brushes, bead blasters, vacuum cleaners, scrapers, grinders, acids, caustics, solvents, alcohols and other agents used in corrosion control processes. Treats metal with chemical procedures, such as acids and caustics for passivation and etching, to protect metal from oxidation. (12) Applies protective coatings, markings, and decals afterproper removal of corrosion and treatment of metals. Uses conventionalpaint spray equipment, electrostatic spray equipment, brushes andspecial applicators when applying primers and surface coatings. (13) Identifies, blends, stores, controls, and disposes ofhazardous materials such as acids, caustics, alcohols, solvents,cleaners, primers and surface coatings used for corrosion removal,treatment and protection in accordance with applicable directives. (14) May operate the wash rack. Accomplishes corrosion andwashing inspections within schedule provided to ensure compliance withthe monthly and weekly maintenance plan. May conduct training onproper methods and procedures of wash rack operations. (15) May assist in training of drill status guard members andin maintenance of publication files of applicable technical orders,regulations, manuals and local directives. (16) Prepares for and participates in various types ofreadiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections mobilityand command support exercises. May be required to perform suchadditional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue/duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading andhandling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities andequipment, or serve a member of a team to cope with natural disastersor civil emergencies. (17) Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Military Grades: Enlisted Minimum Military Grade: E-1/ AB Maximum Military Grade: E-5/ SSgt Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard. IMPORTANT NOTES (AS APPLICABLE): Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation. A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor). Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO). Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.
