JOB SUMMARY

The Service Truck Driver is a critical member of the Paving team, responsible for the mobilization, maintenance, and fueling of heavy paving equipment to ensure zero downtime on active job sites. This role involves operating heavy-duty service vehicles and various pieces of paving machinery (such as rollers, pavers, and skid steers) to support the crew.

As The Equipment Operator III, you are expected to serve as a technical expert and safety leader, performing complex maintenance tasks, managing fluid inventories, and coordinating with the Foreman to optimize site efficiency. You will ensure that all equipment is 'ready to run,' compliant with safety regulations, and maintained to Martin Marietta’s rigorous standards.

  • Demonstrate mastery in operating a variety of paving equipment (asphalt pavers, steel-drum rollers, and backhoes) to assist the crew during peak production or equipment repositioning.
  • Execute expert-level judgment when navigating service trucks through tight construction zones, uneven terrain, and high-traffic areas.
  • Lead the daily servicing of the paving fleet, including fueling, greasing, and fluid level management (oil, hydraulic, coolant).
  • Diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs in the field (replacing hydraulic hoses, fixing light electrical issues, or adjusting belts) to prevent project delays.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections (DVIRs) for the service truck and assigned paving equipment, documenting all findings in accordance with DOT and company policy.
  • Manage the handling and disposal of hazardous materials (fuel, oil, grease) in strict adherence to EPA and OSHA regulations, ensuring a 'zero-spill' environment.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and lead by example in the use of PPE, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of work zone MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) to ensure the safety of the crew and the traveling public.
  • Maintain accurate digital or paper logs of fuel consumption, maintenance intervals, and hour-meter readings for the entire paving spread.
  • Monitor and request replenishment of service truck supplies, ensuring the vehicle is fully stocked with critical spare parts and fluids.
