Senior Special Inspector – Masonry / Concrete (Commercial & Mixed‑Use)

Location: Raleigh, NC

Flexible / Project-Based (Commercial and Mixed‑Use Construction Sites)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Special Inspector with ICC Masonry or Concrete certification to support a wide range of commercial, mixed‑use, and institutional construction projects. This role focuses on providing code-compliant special inspections in accordance with IBC, project specifications, and approved construction documents. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, field experience, and the ability to work directly with contractors, engineers, architects, and building officials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform special inspections for masonry and/or concrete construction in compliance with:
    • International Building Code (IBC)
    • Approved construction documents
    • Project specifications and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Conduct inspections for:
    • Reinforced masonry placement and grouting
    • Structural concrete placement, reinforcement, formwork, and curing
    • Anchor bolts, embeds, dowels, and post-installed anchors
  • Verify materials, workmanship, and installation methods meet design and code requirements
  • Accurately document inspection activities through daily field reports, deficiency notices, and final compliance reports
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally with:
    • Contractors and site supervisors
    • Structural engineers and architects
    • Building officials and project managers
  • Track and follow up on nonconforming work to confirm corrective actions are completed
  • Maintain inspection logs and records suitable for jurisdictional review
  • Support projects in active construction environments with minimal supervision
  • Represent the company professionally at commercial and mixed‑use project sites
Required Qualifications
  • ICC Special Inspector Certification in:
    • Reinforced Masonry, and/or
    • Reinforced Concrete
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • Minimum 3+ years of special inspection experience, with a strong emphasis on commercial and mixed‑use projects
  • Thorough working knowledge of:
    • IBC special inspection requirements
    • Structural drawings and construction specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Structural plans and details
    • Engineering specifications and schedules
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with electronic reporting systems and basic computer applications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional ICC certifications (Structural Steel, Soils, Bolting, Welding, etc.)
  • Familiarity with jurisdictional reporting systems and Statement of Special Inspections (SSI)
  • Experience working on:
    • Mid‑rise and high‑rise buildings
    • Mixed‑use developments
    • Institutional, office, retail, or hospitality projects
  • Background in construction, testing, or engineering services
Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based at active construction sites
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and typical construction hazards
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift moderate weight as required for inspections

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
