The Tax department is seeking a driven Senior Tax Analyst to support tax software updates, tax rule determination and automation processes. This role partners closely with the Tax Technology Manager to build a road map to automate various tasks within the tax department related to motor fuel tax, sales tax and income tax reporting. Responsibilities also include tax rate updates, customer invoicing support, and ad hoc tax projects. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong tax and systems knowledge who is excited to improve efficiency through scalable, tech-driven solutions.

Your Role, Your Impact

  • Assist with and develop new tax automation workflows with the use of Alteryx software (and other AI tools) where you primarily design, build, and maintain automation workflows for excise tax return preparation, reporting, and filings (e.g., Forms 720, 8849, state returns etc.)
  • Collaborate with excise tax and accounting teams to understand manual processes and identify automation opportunities.
  • Reconcile existing Alteryx workflows and update logic as needed based on business, market, and jurisdictional excise tax rule changes.
  • Assist with all tax related issues in relation to Global's major accounting software of Right Angle and Oracle to help align fuel data flows with tax reporting requirements
  • Maintain and improve tools used to reconcile tax data against GL entries and inventory reports
  • Assist with Avalara tax return scenario and profile determinations for State and Federal returns.
  • Assist with registrations and tax license renewals.
  • Interact with customers, suppliers and internal business associates to address and respond to changes related to tax setups within various tax and accounting software including Avalara and Right Angle.
  • Assist with analysis and research of federal and state excise tax matters.
  • Assist exchange tax invoice creation by means of gathering and preparing all necessary documentation and correspondence.
  • Support and prepare fuel tax related internal control (SOX) compliance.
  • Keep current on relevant statutory/regulatory and/or technology changes to identify and implement necessary changes and best practices, including opportunities for process improvements.
  • Maintain and comply with the highest degree of professional standards, customer confidentiality and personal conduct.
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, MIS or related field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in motor fuel excise tax compliance or equivalent excise tax experience (e.g. fuel, energy, or excise tax).
  • Proven experience with excise tax compliance automation tools, including Avalara, PDI, RightAngle, or comparable tax technology platforms.
  • Hands-on experience preparing, reviewing, and filing state and federal excise tax returns, including reconciliations and amendments.
  • Strong understanding of fuel tax reporting, data validation, and audit support.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize, automate, and streamline tax compliance processes.
  • Experience performing tax research using tax services such as CCH, RIA, BNA, etc.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and large data sets).
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.


Pay Range


$78,000.00 - $117,000.00



The pay range for this position is outlined above. The final amount offered at the start of employment is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, abilities and geographic location, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
