This role focuses on building and integrating live, virtual, and constructive training environments that enable Guardians to test, train, and develop tactics in an operationally relevant setting. The position offers the opportunity to develop deep expertise in the space warfighting domain, distributed training environments, Ansys Systems Tool Kit (STK®), and other industry-leading simulation technologies, while driving key technology decisions that support training, education, and planning needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small Agile Scrum team in the design, development, integration, and delivery of software solutions that adapt the Battlespace Operational Readiness Game (BORG™) to the Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI).
  • Plan, architect, and implement software components that enable live, virtual, and constructive training environments for space operations and warfighting readiness.
  • Drive technology decisions and establish best practices for software design, implementation, testing, and deployment within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Integrate modeling and simulation platforms and tools, such as STK and AFSIM, into software applications and ensure their proper test and validation.
  • Design and implement 3D data visualization capabilities using whole-earth and geospatial visualization tools such as Cesium, STK, ArcGIS, or Unity to support training and simulation use cases.
  • Plan, perform, and document systems integration and testing efforts across diverse systems using public APIs (REST, ASP.NET) and C#/C++ assemblies or DLLs.
  • Serve in a leadership capacity within the Agile Scrum framework, acting as Scrum Master or Product Owner as needed, and ensure effective backlog management and sprint execution.
  • Collaborate closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Department of Defense personnel, to gather requirements, refine user stories, and align technical solutions with mission and training objectives.
  • Apply software development methodologies, design patterns, and best practices to produce maintainable, secure, and high-quality code.
  • Use Agile project management tools such as Jira to track work, manage tasks, and report progress to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to and support space and missile defense–related capabilities, including space operations, orbital warfare, electronic warfare, and command and control functions, as they relate to training and simulation.
  • Support the application of digital engineering principles, leveraging digital models and data throughout the lifecycle of complex systems where applicable.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering teams when using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or GovCloud environments to deploy and operate solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance and product quality.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • 15–20 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following areas: Modeling and Simulation, 3D Data Visualization, or Systems Integration and Test.
  • Modeling and Simulation experience with platforms and tools such as STK and AFSIM, including their test and integration into software applications.
  • Expertise in 3D data visualization with whole-earth applications such as Cesium, STK, ArcGIS, or Unity, including visualization techniques for GIS, gaming, or simulation purposes.
  • Strong background in planning, performing, and testing diverse system integrations through public APIs such as REST and ASP.NET, or via C#/C++ assemblies and DLLs.
  • A minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a leadership role within an Agile Scrum environment, especially as a Scrum Master or Product Owner.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, design patterns, and best practices, including in DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, and with project management tools like Jira.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Department of Defense personnel.
  • Experience or domain knowledge in space and missile defense, such as space operations, orbital warfare, electronic warfare, or command and control.
  • Active Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret (TS) / Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP).

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field is beneficial.
  • Industry-recognized Agile certification, such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or GovCloud environments.
  • Experience with Digital Engineering and the use of digital models and data to design, build, test, and operate complex systems.
