Senior Safety & Compliance Product Manager
Mito Red Light | Scottsdale, AZ (HQ) or Remote (US) | Full-time | $120K – $160K, DOE
About Mito Red LightMito Red Light is a premium red light therapy brand on a mission to make the highest quality, safest, and most effective red light therapy products in the world. Our products are used in homes, gyms, clinics, and commercial wellness spaces across the country. As we scale, safety and compliance are not boxes to check. They are the bar we lead with.
About the RoleWe are hiring a Senior Safety & Compliance Product Manager to own our safety and compliance program end to end. This role is the single point of accountability for product safety across our entire catalog, from handheld units to 100-pound commercial wall panels to battery-powered devices.
This is a high-ownership, high-trust role. You will not be reviewing other people's work and waiting for assignments. You will be running a program, driving suppliers, managing third-party labs, and making the judgment calls that determine whether a product ships, holds, or gets pulled.
You will report directly to our President & CPO.
What You Will Own- Certification pipeline. UL and ETL certifications at the factory level across all overseas suppliers, with Mito Red Light listed as Basic or Multiple Listee on every file. You drive submissions to completion, you own the relationships with our certification partners, and you enforce engineering change discipline.
- Independent third-party testing. US-based lab testing for the failure modes factory labs do not cover. Tip-over, drop, structural load, locking power cord pull-out, real-world battery abuse, packaging integrity, photobiological verification on finished units. You scope the test plans and you sign off on the results.
- Supplier qualification program. ISO 9001, 13485, 14001, 45001, MDSAP, BSCI and social audits, FDA registration, factory audit reports, change-control discipline, financial stability, second-source coverage. You score every supplier annually and your scoring feeds into sourcing decisions.
- Signed BOM (sBOM) workflow. Every product, every revision, every supplier. You build the workflow, you enforce it, and you catch substitutions before they ship.
- Product safety reviews on every new SKU and every revision. Including misuse-mode analysis. The question "what does the user do when they ignore the instructions?" gets a real answer before a product goes to market, not after.
- Recall prevention and response. End to end. You build the early-warning system that prevents recalls in the first place. When something does need a field action, retrofit kit, or formal recall, you run it. Customer notification, install audit, kit logistics, regulatory reporting, root cause, and corrective action.
- International market expansion compliance. As we expand into new geographies, you own the certification roadmap. CE marking, UKCA, RCM, PSE, KC, SRRC, and whatever else the target market requires. You build the timeline, you scope the costs, and you drive the submissions.
- Factory follow-up on safety threads. You run the back-and-forth with overseas suppliers. You pin them down on technical answers. The CEO does not chase factories anymore.
- Contract Product Safety Engineer roster. You manage a small bench of fractional PSEs (UL Solutions, TÜV SÜD, Element, or boutique) and you trigger reviews when needed.
- Internal AI compliance stack. We operate a Notion plus Anthropic API toolset that includes a document-review agent, a standards watcher, and a manufacturer-correspondence copilot. You will use these daily and help us improve them.
- Weekly Friday safety review and standing report. You run the meeting and you write the report.
What We Are Looking For- 5 to 10 years in product safety, compliance, or QA/RA at a consumer electronics, wellness hardware, or medical device company.
- Working knowledge of UL, ETL, IEC, and ISO frameworks. Familiarity with mechanical product safety such as tip-over, structural load, and human factors is a strong plus given our commercial panel exposure.
- Direct experience owning a certification program through actual submissions, not just reviewing someone else's work.
- Experience taking products into international markets and managing the corresponding compliance roadmap.
- Direct experience running or contributing to a recall, retrofit, or formal field action program.
- Comfortable managing overseas suppliers and pinning them down on technical answers without escalation.
- Organized, proactive, and self-directed. You drive without being told.
- Comfortable reading AI-generated technical reviews critically and knowing when to escalate to a human engineer.
- Strong written communication. You will write a lot of emails to factories, labs, and internal stakeholders, and clarity matters.
Nice to Have- Battery product safety experience (UL 2054, UL 2056, UL 8750, IEC 62133).
- Photobiological safety experience (IEC 62471).
- Experience with FDA registration of general wellness products.
- Experience with CPSC, ASTM F2057, or other consumer-product tip-hazard frameworks.
- Previous experience working with overseas manufacturers, particularly in China.
What We Offer- $120K to $160K base, depending on experience.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Remote-friendly. If you are in or near Scottsdale we would love to have you in the office, but we are open to fully remote for the right person.
- Direct line to the President/CPO and the operations leadership team. Your work is visible and it matters.
- Real ownership of a function the company is investing heavily in.
