Job Description

A nationally respected engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager specializing in Transportation and Rail. The team focuses on blending innovation, sustainability, and community impact to solve modern mobility challenges, delivering high-quality solutions across transit, rail, and multimodal infrastructure. The role involves leading multidisciplinary freight rail projects from early planning through execution while fostering strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess new market opportunities within the freight rail and transportation sectors.
  • Develop and execute strategies to pursue targeted clients and projects.
  • Manage full lifecycle client relationships and support pursuit strategies.
  • Lead contract negotiations and ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Serve as principal-in-charge or project manager as needed, overseeing project performance, contractual compliance, risk mitigation, and profitability.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality, and budget-conscious project delivery.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor engineers and project managers.
  • Support professional development and promote technical excellence.
  • Make pursuit staffing and partner decisions, support go/no-go decisions, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of civil engineering experience with a focus on freight rail and rail-related land development projects.
  • Experience working within the railroad engineering industry, including familiarity with design guidelines and standards.
  • Experience delivering projects for Class I railroads and rail-served industrial clients.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard project communication tools.
  • Strong technical writing skills and confidence presenting to clients and public stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead medium-to-large teams of professionals and technicians.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in winning and delivering transportation projects.
  • Ability to periodically travel for client meetings, business development, and project support.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $240000.00/yr.
