Senior Project Manager - Substation Construction (Confidential)


Location: Chicago, IL / Columbus, OH


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project management of multiple high-voltage substation projects
  • Oversee all phases including planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout
  • Ensure delivery of projects on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Drive a strong safety culture in collaboration with field leadership and HSE teams
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Coordinate closely with superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and clients
  • Lead project planning efforts including scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management
  • Manage subcontractor performance, contracts, and commercial obligations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership
  • Mentor and support the development of project engineers and junior project managers

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10–15+ years of experience in substation, transmission & distribution (T&D), or heavy civil construction
  • Proven track record in project management roles (Project Manager or Senior Project Manager)
  • Strong experience delivering high-voltage substation projects preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects
  • Solid understanding of project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management
  • Experience working with utilities, EPC contractors, or large infrastructure clients
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Willingness to travel across the Midwest as required
