Job Summary:

Senior Plastics Processing Engineer will lead the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of plastic manufacturing processes. This role focuses on improving production efficiency, ensuring product quality, managing a small team of engineers and technicians, and supporting the launch of new products and tooling. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience with injection molding, material selection, and process validation aligned with ISO requirements for medical devices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of plastic processing methods, primarily in [injection molding / extrusion / blow molding / thermoforming].
  • Evaluate and implement new tooling, materials, equipment, and processes to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Utilize scientific molding principles and DOE (Design of Experiments) for process development and problem-solving.
  • Manage and develop a team of process engineers and technicians, setting goals, providing coaching, conducting performance reviews, and fostering professional growth.
  • Develop and maintain robust process documentation, including work instructions, validation protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians in processing techniques and best practices.
  • Stay up to date on the latest plastics technologies, materials, and industry trends to recommend improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) across the plant.
  • Ensure all processes comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, FDA, etc.).


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in plastics processing, with a strong background in injection molding.
  • Proven track record of process improvement and successful implementation of new materials or equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Deep understanding of engineered polymer materials and behavior under processing conditions.
  • Experience with simulation software (e.g., Moldflow, SolidWorks Plastics) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and quality systems (e.g., ISO 13485, GMP, FDA) as applicable to the industry.


Preferred Certifications:

  • RJG Master Molder or equivalent training
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
  • Scientific Molding Certification
