(SR) Portfolio Accountant | San Francisco (Hybrid- 4 days in office)
A highly respected, privately held real estate investment and development firm is looking to add a (Sr) Portfolio Accountant to their close-knit team in downtown San Francisco.
This is a rare opportunity to join a stable, well-capitalized firm with a 30+ year track record of success across office, industrial, retail, residential, and mixed-use assets throughout Northern California.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Work directly with leadership: CFO and Controller both come from Big 4 CPA backgrounds
- Join a firm where we’ve successfully placed key leadership (strong culture, low turnover)
- Exposure beyond traditional accounting operations, asset management, and construction
- Long-term incentive plan tied to real estate performance (true upside participation)
- Tight-knit team of ~20 professionals, collaborative, no bureaucracy
- “Family-forward firm without the family drama”
The Opportunity
This role has been thoughtfully redesigned to provide a more strategic and well-rounded experience:
- Review financials from an outsourced investment accounting provider
- Own and manage corporate accounting and month-end close
- Support cash management, compliance, and operational accounting
- Partner cross-functionally with asset management and construction teams
- Contribute to the accounting of a broader family-owned platform
Who They’re Looking For
- Background in real estate accounting, family office, or small CPA firm (audit/tax/outsourced accounting)
- Strong understanding of GL, financials, and month-end close
- Someone who wants to build a long-term career in real estate accounting
- Stable career progression, clear rationale behind any shorter tenures
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
This is not a “next stop to Controller” role — it’s ideal for someone who values stability, exposure, and long-term growth within a high-quality firm.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $95K – $110K
- Bonus: ~15% target
- Long-term incentive plan (additional upside tied to property performance)
- 100% employer-paid healthcare (employee)
- 401(k) with safe harbor match up to 4%
- 3 weeks PTO (grows to 4 weeks) + generous sick time
- Hybrid schedule: 4 days in-office | Fridays WFH
Timing
This is an urgent hire due to a planned retirement, with a smooth transition expected given recent operational changes. If you’re interested or know someone who fits this profile, feel free to reach out directly or send a resume along with a few times to connect.
