Overview

The Senior Patient Care Technician provides leadership and oversight to the PCTs assigned to the unit. Responsible for daily assistance to patients in connection with personal hygiene, grooming, appointments and activities. Assist patients with particular issue or needs as well as provided appropriate emotional support. Monitor vital signs, temperature and patient condition. Assist nursing staff in administering basic treatments.

Basic Schedule:

Daytime (7am - 7:30pm) and Overnight (7pm-7:30am) shifts including weekend rotation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the daily supervision of patients. This includes implementing treatment plans per assignment and the care, activities support and floor supervision of patients.
  • Provide guidance to patients in life skills and grooming; issue clothing and other personal effects to patients.
  • Monitor individual behavioral plans under guidance of the professional multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Enrich and augment scheduled/structured therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • Conduct EOC rounds to affirm patient safety and security and prevent the introduction of contraband.
  • Monitor, supervise and screen patient visitor traffic.
  • Instruct patients about expected behavior and maintain control. Observe for signs of disorder or tension and report such observations to RN staff; provide guidance and support to patients to manage emotional and behavioral adjustment problems.
  • Maintain documentation including shift summaries, significant incident reports, documentation of room checks, etc.
  • De-escalate and intervene in crises situations as appropriate. Provide one to one supervision of patients as directed by RNProvide guidance to patients in life skills and grooming; issue clothing and other personal effects to patients.

Requirements/Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human services field preferred. Bachelor Degree preferred.
  • 3-7 years of experience in behavioral health setting or with a behavioral health population preferred.
  • Ability to direct the activities of patients, to work under potentially stressful conditions, to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner.
  • Ability to observe and describe facts and events accurately and to prepare reports relating to patients or facility activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing and to follow oral and written instructions and to read, understand and apply rules.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Successfully complete required training and in-service training as required.
