About the Company

Leonard Workforce Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a growing organization seeking a qualified candidate for the following position. Our client designs and builds custom optical test equipment, metrology systems, and precision measurement solutions used in the development of space telescopes and high-performance optical systems. Their work operates at nanometer-level wavefront error budgets and supports some of the most advanced programs in the aerospace and commercial space industries.

About the Role

They are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who can take broad technical responsibility for complex optical test systems — understanding the full scope of what needs to happen, driving the team to execute, and ensuring the entire system works. This is a hands-on leadership role on a small, highly collaborative team where you will own key projects from concept through delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of complex optical test and metrology systems end to end
  • Define system architecture, requirements, and integration strategies for custom optical test equipment
  • Drive cross-functional coordination across optical, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines
  • Manage project execution while maintaining deep technical understanding without getting lost in the weeds
  • Support integration of precision mechanical systems, electronics, and software into cohesive test platforms
  • Identify new metrology opportunities and help expand the company's technical capabilities

Qualifications

  • Experience with optical metrology, interferometry, and precision measurement systems
  • Strong understanding of optical systems and imaging — how they work, why they sometimes don't, and how testing relates to system performance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects and take full ownership of system-level outcomes
  • Experience with precision mechanics, optomechanical integration, or related hardware disciplines
  • Familiarity with system-level integration of software, electronics, and optical subsystems
  • Ability to operate at a high level while respecting technical details — setting the work structure without getting consumed by individual tasks
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or commercial space preferred
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder required
