Principal Optical Engineer (2 positions) with expertise designing/optimizing optical imaging systems, ideally with zoom lenses... for DoD clients - taking them from concept to production.
MUST be a US citizen or Permanent Resident
Primary duties:
- Develop optical architectures per stds. for MTF, distortion, field of view, resolution & stray light control
- Tolerance analysis and manufacturability assessments
- Work with MEs/EEs/Systems Engineers on system integration
- Create optical specs and documentation for suppliers/internal teams
- Support prototype builds, optical testing, process development, and design validation
- Interface with Optical/Mfg. vendors for lens fabrication, coatings, and assembly
- Troubleshoot optical performance during development and production
- Help improve optical design method/tools
Required
- BS/MS/PhD in Optical Eng, Physics, Applied Optics
- 7+ years of lens design/optical system development
- Geometrical/physical optics, aberration theory, optical tolerancing & stray light/ghost analysis
- Strong coding experience - Zemax, OpticStudio, Matlab
Preferred
- IR systems (SWIR / MWIR / LWIR)
- Support production optics, yield improvement, and precision alignment
- Optical testing (interferometry, MTF)
- Previous experience working within a stringently regulated industry
