Senior Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive psychosocial and functional assessments to support individuals participating in Wellness, Federal Disability, and employment-related program tracks.

The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical assessment skills, knowledge of behavioral health and medical conditions, and experience evaluating functional capacity outcomes in accordance with NYC HRA and SSA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct client interviews, review medical and behavioral health records, and collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals to assess functional capacity and program suitability.
• Perform Social Security Administration (SSA) Sequential Evaluations as part of the assessment process.
• Identify and initiate referrals for CASAC, domestic violence services, psychiatric evaluations, psychological assessments, and medical assessments as appropriate.
• Determine Functional Capacity Outcomes (FCO) and provide detailed supporting documentation and clinical justification.
• Recognize when specialty assessments, laboratory testing, or additional evaluations are required to support final determinations.
• During reassessments, evaluate client progress toward established treatment goals and reassess functional capacity based on updated medical or behavioral health information.
• Ensure compliance with NYC HRA policies, procedures, and organizational standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree required
• Active NYS professional license required:
• LMSW
• LCSW
• LMHC
• Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or other HRA-approved credential
• Minimum 1–3 years of experience assessing adults with medical and behavioral health conditions related to Functional Capacity Outcomes (FCO) and/or SSA disability evaluations
• Strong understanding of: Medical and behavioral health diagnoses and their impact on functional capacity
• Common medications and potential side effects affecting daily functioning
• SSA Blue Book Listing of Impairments and Federal Disability qualification requirements
• SSA Sequential Evaluation process
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and multiple software systems
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Annual Base Salary Range: $80,724.01to 102,903.88 (Grant Funded)
