Job Description

The Senior Mechatronics & Robotics Technician leads the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment within a high-volume material handling environment. This role supports the Operations Maintenance team by designing solutions for complex technical problems, managing maintenance-related projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The technician also plays a key leadership role in training, mentoring, and guiding service and contract technicians to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of material handling and robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment, including material handling equipment, sorters, robotics, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on material handling equipment (MHE), automated conveyor systems, and related mechanical and controls equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Repair and maintain material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues with material handling equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and control system problems, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to support installation, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
  • Support the Operations Maintenance team by designing practical solutions for difficult technical problems and contributing to the planning and execution of maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Use data analysis and maintenance management tools, including CMMS systems, to plan, track, and optimize maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Apply maintenance management, preventative maintenance planning, and risk management principles to improve system reliability and reduce unplanned outages.
  • Mentor and train junior technicians and contract technicians, providing technical guidance, coaching, and day-to-day supervision to build team capability.
  • Promote and demonstrate adherence to safety standards at all times, identifying and mitigating risks associated with automation, robotics, and high-speed conveyor systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support automation, control systems, and continuous improvement initiatives, including the application of project management and Six Sigma methodologies where appropriate.
  • Document maintenance work, repairs, and improvements accurately and completely in maintenance systems and reports.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • 4+ years of experience repairing material handling equipment (MHE), automated conveyor systems, or related mechanical and controls equipment.
  • 4+ years of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • 4+ years of experience demonstrating and adhering to safety standards in an industrial or maintenance environment.
  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and performing diagnostics on material handling equipment (MHE).
  • 1+ years of experience using Microsoft Office products and applications.
  • Strong skills in electrical troubleshooting and mechanical troubleshooting for automated and robotic systems.
  • Experience with maintenance management and preventative maintenance planning.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to move up to 49 lbs and stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with automation and control systems in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with robotics and automated packaging equipment.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques to assess equipment performance and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Exposure to project management practices for maintenance or engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in mentoring junior technicians and providing day-to-day maintenance supervision.
  • Strong risk management mindset when working with high-speed automated and robotic systems.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with operations, maintenance, and external contractors.

Work Environment

This role operates in a large, automated distribution and packaging facility that relies heavily on material handling equipment, conveyor systems, robotics, automation, and control systems. You will spend most of your time on the floor working hands-on with equipment, standing and walking for shifts that can last up to 12 hours, and moving items weighing up to 49 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation. The schedule requires flexibility and openness to night shifts, with typical patterns of Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday. Day shifts run approximately 04:30–16:30 and night shifts run approximately 16:30–04:30. Non-Wednesday workdays are typically 11.5 hours on site (12 hours with a 30-minute break), while Wednesdays are half days at about 5.5 hours on site (6 hours with a 30-minute break). Shifts may be organized as Front Half Day (FHD), Back Half Day (BHD), Front Half Night (FHN), and Back Half Night (BHN) blocks across the 24-hour schedule. The facility emphasizes safety, providing lightweight fire-resistant daily wear and composite toe safety shoes as part of the standard attire for working around automated and robotic equipment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66040.00 - $66040.00/yr.
