Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer / MEP Program Manager
Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer / MEP Program Manager to oversee HVAC and plumbing design across a portfolio of industrial and fulfillment facility projects. In this owner-level role, you will coordinate between internal design and construction teams, external engineers, and general contractors to ensure consistent, high‑quality mechanical systems are delivered on schedule and within budget. You will focus on design oversight, technical decision‑making, and program‑level coordination rather than hands‑on engineering production, leading design reviews, driving standardization, and proactively mitigating cost, schedule, and constructability risks. This position offers broad visibility and impact across multiple projects, with the opportunity to influence design standards used nationwide and to shape how large‑scale facilities are built.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee HVAC and plumbing design for multiple industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, and mission‑critical facilities within a broader logistics portfolio.
  • Act as the bridge between internal design and construction teams, external engineers, and general contractors to align project goals, design intent, and execution.
  • Lead MEP design from design development through construction, including coordination with engineers, contractors, and owner stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough design reviews of consultant mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing documents, providing clear feedback and direction while serving in an oversight role rather than as the engineer of record.
  • Review and approve consultant design documents to ensure compliance with project requirements, building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry regulations.
  • Drive standardization of mechanical design approaches, details, and specifications across projects to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate cost, schedule, and constructability risks related to mechanical and plumbing systems across the project portfolio.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality expectations at the program level.
  • Lead and influence cross‑functional teams, including design, construction, and operations stakeholders, without direct reporting authority.
  • Coordinate BIM‑based design efforts, including clash detection and model reviews, to resolve conflicts early and support constructible solutions.
  • Collaborate with Senior leadership to shape and refine mechanical design standards and program‑level strategies for large‑scale facilities.
  • Present technical design concepts, trade‑offs, and recommendations to non‑technical stakeholders and Senior leaders in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Support value engineering (VE) efforts by identifying cost‑effective alternatives that maintain performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Monitor construction progress related to mechanical and plumbing systems, addressing field issues and ensuring alignment with approved designs.
  • Use project management tools and methodologies to track milestones, manage documentation, and communicate project status across teams.
  • Travel occasionally to domestic construction sites to participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and field walks as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Multiple years of experience supporting or managing HVAC and plumbing systems for industrial, warehouse, manufacturing, or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading MEP design through construction, including coordination with engineers, contractors, and owners.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building systems, applicable building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Experience reviewing and approving consultant design documents rather than serving as the engineer of record.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical design concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and Senior leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to domestic construction sites.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in BIM coordination and clash detection on developing projects.
  • Impeccable organization, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk tools including Revit, AutoCAD, and Autodesk BIM 360.
  • Experience with project management and construction management practices.
  • Strong background in HVAC and plumbing systems for complex commercial or industrial projects.
  • Proven experience managing MEP design through construction, including value engineering, cost control, and schedule risk mitigation.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
  • Familiarity with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, BIM coordination tools, and project management software.
  • Owner‑side, design‑manager, or construction‑side MEP leadership experience strongly preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Multiple years of project management experience from design development through construction administration on complex commercial projects, with industrial experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and industry regulations.
  • Comfort presenting technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and Senior leadership.
  • Interest in operating at the owner or program level on large‑scale facilities rather than solely in a consulting or contractor capacity.
  • Motivation to transition from traditional consulting or contractor roles into program‑level leadership while maintaining a strong technical focus.
Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a remote work environment, providing flexibility while supporting a growing team focused on large‑scale industrial and fulfillment facilities. It is helpful, though not required, to be based near a major site such as Arlington, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Santa Monica, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; or Chicago, IL to facilitate occasional in‑person collaboration and site visits. Work involves regular use of digital tools including Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and Autodesk applications such as Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM 360, as well as project management and BIM coordination platforms. The position includes occasional travel to domestic construction sites to participate in coordination meetings, perform field walks, and engage directly with construction teams. The environment emphasizes collaboration, ownership‑level decision‑making, and the opportunity to influence design standards and practices across a broad portfolio of projects.
