What We Are Looking For:

Michael Baker International is expanding in the vibrant Austin market, and we’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who’s ready to make a lasting impact. In this role, you’ll lead the planning, design, and construction support for a diverse portfolio of healthcare, mission critical, higher education, and complex commercial projects — from concept to completion.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to shape innovative mechanical systems that stand the test of time. Your expertise will guide the development of RFPs, construction drawings, and specifications that set the standard for excellence.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical and plumbing construction documents, including layouts, details, and specifications.
  • Engage with clients in business development activities, support proposal development, and contribute to business growth.
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, electrical, fire, structural, and other disciplines to deliver integrated building solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Participate in client meetings, assess project needs, present design concepts, and adjust plans to meet client expectations.
  • Develop scope of work, develop pricing and technical documentation, and create fee estimates for proposals.
  • Perform detailed HVAC technical analyses and calculations.
  • Ensure project quality, schedule, and budget requirements are consistently met.
  • Contribute to internal and external technical development initiatives.
  • Conduct internal technical reviews (ITRs) of peer design projects.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly.
  • Perform field surveys of existing equipment to inform design decisions.
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in HVAC and plumbing engineering.
  • Support additional tasks, assigned by management.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering (Mechanical Focus) required.
  • 10+ years of related professional experience is required.
  • PE license required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and controls design
  • Extensive experience with technical writing

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • LEED AP, CPD, and/or CEM credentials are recognized, but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of IMC, IBC, and other applicable codes, as well as design manuals and standards relating to mechanical and plumbing engineering is required.

Compensation

The approximate compensation range for this position $110,000- $170,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
